Job Description

PRINCIPALS/DIRECTORS WILL POST IN OFFICE AREAS UPON RECEIPT

DATE: August 6, 2026

POSITION: Special Education Coordinator/Gifted Teacher

Contract: 220-day contract, effective 2026-2027 school year

Qualifications:

  1. WV Professional Teaching Certificate with endorsements in one or more areas of special education to include autism and gifted
  2. Masters Degree in Special Education
  3. Minimum of ten (10) years successful teaching experience to include special education
  4. Education administrative experience preferred
  5. Experience in development of Individual Education Programs (IEP) on the WVEIS online system

Duties and Responsibilities:

  1. Provide gifted instruction to identified students per their IEP
  2. Case management for students identified as gifted or exceptionally gifted
  3. Assist with the evaluation process for students referred for special education services
  4. Assist schools with implementing specially designed instruction in integrated classrooms
  5. Assist schools with secondary transition planning and services for students with disabilities
  6. Assist schools with implementing strategies to increase the graduation rate of students with disabilities
  7. Monitor students with disabilities discipline and oversee the disciplinary action review and manifestation determination review processes
  8. Participate in school Positive Behavior Intervention and Support (PBIS) teams to ensure students with disabilities have been provided schoolwide PBIS system of supports
  9. Review IEP documentation and provide corrective feedback to school staff
  10. Assist in the monitoring of compliance for the district's special education program
  11. Assist in scheduling special education related meetings and participate when necessary
  12. Support new special education staff by providing training as applicable
  13. Assist schools with the preparation for students taking the alternate summative assessment
  14. Support district and school improvement efforts applicable to special education
  15. Assist schools in the Multi-Tiered System of Supports ensuring compliance with Policy 2419
  16. Perform other duties as assigned

SUPERVISOR: Director of Special Education

SALARY: According to Wirt County Schools Salary Schedule ($8,800 Supplement)
