Job Description

Job Title: Special Education Bus Driver Reports to: Assistant Director

$21.00 - $25.50 per hour range

A Kindle Farm Bus Driver can expect to interact on a daily basis with children who attend Kindle Farm and serve as their trusted transportation to and from school. As such, a School Bus Driver should be free of any traffic or criminal violations and should have an authoritative, yet calming demeanor and a strong understanding of traffic laws.

Responsibilities and Duties of the School Bus Driver position:

  • Transport children and other passengers to and from school
  • Obey all traffic laws
  • Ability to carry out assigned route on time
  • Maintain a clean and mechanically sound bus at all time
  • Ensure the safety of all students
  • Utilize Kindle Farm Behavioral Support Methods as needed to maintain a safe environment
  • Perform inspections of the bus before and after each route
  • Attend safety meetings as required

Qualifications:

  • Education/Certification: Valid Vermont or New Hampshire driver’s license, A Commercial (Class B) preferred
  • Must be 18 years of age
  • Ability to complete required bus driver safety training
  • Ability to follow written and verbal instructions
  • Ability to communicate effectively
  • Knowledge of student Kindle Farm support procedures
  • Ability to manage student behavior
  • Ability to operate bus
  • Clean driving record with no at-fault accidents or traffic citations within the last five years
  • Two or more years of experience working with children preferred
  • One or more years of experience

Equipment Used:

  • School owned and maintained light van, locks, seatbelts, harnesses, car seats, safety equipment (flares, reflective signs), fire extinguisher.
  • Working Conditions:
  • Maintain emotional control. Continual sitting, reaching, and repetitive hand and arm motions; pushing, pulling, moderate lifting. Work outside and inside; moderate exposure to extreme temperatures and vehicle fumes.
