Position Summary:

  • Serves as the Office’s digital storyteller by capturing content, such as photos and videos, at official engagements to drive public visibility through social media engagement.
  • Provides direct support to the Office by managing calendar scheduling, event logistics, constituent services, and administrative operations.
  • Serves as staff that may be asked to escort the Chief for official engagements, which may include evenings and weekends, as well as driving responsibilities.

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Supports the Office’s digital footprint by capturing content at official engagements for social media usage and record-keeping purposes.
  • Provides driving support for staff and may be asked to escort the Chief at official engagements, which may include evening and weekend events.
  • Prepares briefing materials for the Chief to ensure preparedness for official engagements.
  • Manages the Chief’s calendar, including processing scheduling requests, coordinating with internal and external stakeholders, managing constituent services, and troubleshooting in a fast-paced environment.
  • Coordinates events from ideation to execution, including planning logistics and providing on-site support.
  • Manages written communications on behalf of the Office, to include monitoring voicemails, triaging the general mailbox, and tracking constituent correspondence in the constituent relationship management (CRM) system.
  • Supports the documenting of official engagement, include outreach activities, to inform strategic planning and reporting requirements.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications

To perform the job successfully, the following competencies should be demonstrated to perform the essential functions of this position.

  • Social Media & Communications — The ideal candidate can develop and deploy social media strategies that help to raise the reach of the Office’s digital footprint, including capturing content such as photos and videos, editing photos, producing short-form videos, and developing graphic designs for promotional assets. The candidate can also demonstrate experience with social media platforms (e.g., Instagram, Facebook, YouTube, etc.) and editing software (e.g., Adobe Creative Cloud, Canva, or similar tools) is preferred.
  • Photography & Videography — The idea candidate can capture high-quality photographs and videos at official engagements, including the timely editing and posting of images for social media usage, press release, and record-keeping purposes.
  • Principal Support — The ideal candidate holds a valid driver’s license with a safe driving record and can transport the Chief to and from official engagements, as needed. The candidate can also serve as the body person and escort to the Chief, including working a flexible schedule with evenings and weekends.
  • Scheduling & Calendar Management — The ideal candidate can process and prioritize a high volume of scheduling requests, to include vetting invitations, coordinating with internal and externals stakeholders, and preparing briefing materials for meetings and official engagements.
  • Event Planning — The ideal candidate can plan and execute events of varying size and complexity, to include managing logistics, coordinating with vendors and venues, developing guest lists, and organizing on-site operations.
  • Administrative Operations — The ideal candidate can draft timely and professional correspondence in response to incoming communications from internal and external stakeholders, including voicemails, general mailboxes, and constituent records via the CRM system. The candidate can also work with informational technology professionals to maintain the Office’s website.
  • Confidentiality & Discretion — The ideal candidate can handle sensitive and privileged information with sound judgment and professionalism, to include maintaining the trust of the Chief and other staff across the Office of the Governor and Office of Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion. The candidate also will have experience interacting with government executives, elected officials, and political appointees.

In addition to the above competencies, the ideal candidate will have experience with Microsoft Office Suite, particularly Outlook for calendar management. Also, familiarity with the Commonwealth of Virginia and with the Virginia General Assembly are preferred.

Additional Considerations

There is no teleworking for this position. A valid driver’s license and the ability to work a flexible schedule, including nights and weekends, are required. This is an at-will position appointed by the Governor and the chosen applicant must successfully complete a fingerprint background check. This position is open until filled.

Please describe a campaign concept that would use digital storytelling to communicate the Office’s mission while growing its reach across social media platforms among various audiences across the Commonwealth of Virginia.
  • References: Three professional references with their name, title, organization, phone number, and email address, to include the following two (2) categories at minimum: 1. a current or former supervisor and 2. a current or former colleague.
