The SPARTstart Fellow in Math, Science, and Technology is an early-career educator who supports student learning while developing their instructional practice through a structured, mentored fellowship. Fellows collaborate closely with mentor teachers and school leaders to observe instruction, plan, teach, and co-teach lessons, and progressively assume increased classroom responsibility. The role emphasizes reflective practice, inquiry-based and student-centered instruction, collaboration within and across disciplines. Fellows participate in the SPARTstart Fellowship Seminar—a structured professional learning course focused on pedagogy, reflective practice, the gradual development of independent teaching skills, and the creation of a professional teaching portfolio documenting instructional practice and growth.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS AND TASKS:

  • Engages students in meaningful, inquiry-based learning experiences that promote deep understanding.
  • Participates as an active member of the learning community, demonstrating a commitment to continuous professional growth and reflective practice.
  • Collaborates with mentor and lead teachers to observe instruction, co-plan lessons, and co-teach classes using department-developed curriculum and school learning principles.
  • Supports the design and delivery of hands-on, inquiry-based units aligned with the Understanding by Design framework and diverse learning needs.
  • Participates in the SPARTstart Fellowship Seminar and other required professional development focused on pedagogy, classroom practice, and the gradual development of independent teaching skills.
  • Maintains a professional disposition that reflects effective pedagogical practices, collaboration, and positive engagement with students and colleagues.
  • Assists with classroom or laboratory preparation and cleanup, provides periodic class coverage as needed, and supports departmental and school operations.
  • Attends required meetings, trainings, and in-service activities, which may occur outside regular school hours.
  • Performs other related duties as assigned.



Qualifications

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES:

  • Bachelors Degree in Science, Math, or relevant Education or Technology.
  • A lifelong learner willing to balance past experience with the demands of a new environment.
  • Ability to work on multiple tasks and projects simultaneously, ensuring on-time delivery, accuracy, and end-user satisfaction is expected.
  • A willingness to understand and support the schools mission and vision, as well as recognize the impact the climate and culture of the school have on the work of the School.
  • Demonstrate an understanding of the needs of various constituencies within the school community and the skills and attitude to deliver an exemplary experience to all stakeholders.
  • Work in a fast-paced, stressful environment dealing with a wide variety of challenges, deadlines, and a varied and diverse array of contacts.
  • Strong organizational and time management skills.
  • Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written.
