Job Description

SGI Global LLC is seeking a fluent Spanish-speaking Spanish-English Interpreter to support the Department of State, Bureau of International Narcotics and Law Enforcement Affairs (INL) in Mexico City, Mexico, which requires professional and administrative support services to work with the U.S. Foreign Assistance Program to Mexico.

INL Interpreter

Qualifications:

  • U.S. citizen or Mexican citizen.
  • Spanish FSI level 4.
  • English FSI level 4.
  • Bachelor's degree in interpretation, translation, linguistics, international relations, or a related field; or a minimum of five (5) years of professional experience in interpretation/translation, preferably in law enforcement, legal, or technical settings.
  • Demonstrated experience providing simultaneous and consecutive interpretation in high-pressure, technical, or law enforcement environments.
  • Certification from a recognized interpretation/translation body (e.g., ATA, NAJIT, or equivalent) preferred.
  • Ability to obtain and maintain a Department of State (DOS) MRPT security clearance or be vetted by the host country Regional Security Office (RSO).
  • Strong interpersonal skills and ability to work effectively with U.S. and Government of Mexico officials.
  • Experience with written translation of technical documents, presentations, and reports.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office suite and familiarity with interpretation equipment (e.g., headsets, microphones, audio consoles).

Duties:

  • The position is located in Querétaro, Mexico, but work assignments may also take place in Mexico City or other locations within Mexico as directed by INL. Travel to other locations in Mexico, the United States and other countries may be required.
  • Provide simultaneous and consecutive interpretation between English and Spanish for INL-supported trainings, meetings, and operational events related to counternarcotics, border security, criminal deterrence, and other law enforcement and security forces matters.
  • Accurately interpret complex law enforcement, legal, and technical terminology to facilitate clear communication among U.S. and Mexican officials and participants.
  • Support real-time interpretation during practical exercises, scenario-based instruction, and field operations.
  • Translate written materials, including training manuals, presentations, and official reports, ensuring accuracy and consistency with program objectives.
  • Prepare for assignments by reviewing relevant materials and coordinating with subject matter experts as needed.
  • Maintain professionalism, confidentiality, and impartiality in all interpretation and translation activities, and travel as required to support INL programs.
