Spanish Tutor

Position Overview

Prep Academy Tutors of Greater Columbus is looking for an exceptional Spanish Tutor who believes that the right instruction, delivered in the right environment, can make a lasting difference in a student’s academic journey.

We are seeking experienced, certified teachers and highly qualified Spanish educators to provide personalized, one-on-one Spanish tutoring to students in grades K–12 throughout the Columbus area. Our tutors work directly with students in their homes, creating focused learning environments where students can ask questions, build language skills, strengthen confidence, and make meaningful academic progress.

This role is especially well suited for current or former classroom Spanish teachers who enjoy the individualized nature of tutoring and want the opportunity to work closely with students outside of a traditional classroom setting.

What You’ll Do

As a Spanish Tutor, you will:

• Deliver engaging, one-on-one Spanish instruction to K–12 students in the student’s home
• Support students with Spanish language development, including speaking, listening, reading, writing, grammar, vocabulary, and pronunciation
• Reinforce Spanish classroom instruction and help students master challenging concepts
• Adapt lessons, activities, and instructional strategies to each student’s individual learning needs and proficiency level
• Assist students with Spanish homework, projects, class assignments, and exam preparation
• Help students prepare for Spanish assessments and standardized or advanced coursework when applicable
• Support students in developing conversational Spanish and practical language skills
• Identify areas of academic difficulty and develop targeted strategies for improvement
• Help students build confidence and enthusiasm for learning Spanish
• Establish positive, professional relationships with students and their families
• Monitor student progress and communicate meaningful observations and updates
• Encourage students to take ownership of their learning and develop greater academic independence
• Maintain a professional, supportive, and productive in-home learning environment
• Travel to students’ homes throughout the Columbus, Ohio area

What We’re Looking For

We are looking for educators who bring strong Spanish-language knowledge, teaching experience, and a genuine passion for helping students succeed.

Ideal candidates will have:

• A bachelor’s degree or higher
• A valid Ohio teaching license/certificate or equivalent teaching credential, preferably with Spanish or World Languages endorsement
• Demonstrated classroom teaching experience
• Strong proficiency in Spanish
• Strong knowledge of Spanish grammar, vocabulary, pronunciation, and language development
• Experience working with students in grades K–12
• The ability to adapt instruction for different learning styles, abilities, and proficiency levels
• Strong communication and interpersonal skills
• Patience, professionalism, reliability, and a student-centered approach
• Excellent organization and time-management skills
• Reliable transportation and the ability to travel to student homes
• Authorization to work in the United States

Preferred Qualifications

Preference may be given to candidates who have:

• Current or recent experience as a certified Spanish or World Languages teacher
• Experience teaching Spanish in a public, private, or charter school
• Native or near-native Spanish proficiency
• Experience teaching students at beginning, intermediate, and advanced Spanish levels
• Experience supporting students with diverse academic and language-learning needs
• Experience preparing students for Spanish assessments or standardized tests
• Experience teaching honors, AP, IB, college-preparatory, or advanced Spanish coursework
• A master’s degree or higher
• Experience providing private Spanish tutoring or individualized language instruction
• Experience teaching conversational Spanish or supporting heritage-language learners

Schedule

Tutors have the flexibility to build a schedule around their existing professional and personal commitments. Student assignments and tutoring hours are based on family needs, tutor availability, Spanish proficiency, grade-level experience, and geographic location.

Afternoon, evening, and weekend availability may be particularly valuable.

Tutors may be matched with families based on their location, Spanish-language expertise, grade-level experience, and availability.

Minimum Requirements

A successful candidate will have a bachelor’s degree and meet at least one of the following criteria:

• Hold a valid Ohio teaching license/certificate or equivalent teaching credential
• Have current or recent experience as a certified classroom teacher
• Have at least two years of classroom teaching experience in a public, private, or charter school
• Have experience as a lecturer or course instructor at an accredited U.S. college or university
• Be a graduate student with relevant teaching or teaching-assistant experience at an accredited U.S. college or university

Candidates must also demonstrate strong proficiency in Spanish and the ability to provide effective Spanish-language instruction to K–12 students.
