The John Carroll School is seeking a qualified Spanish teacher for full-time or part-time, 10-month employment. Candidates should possess a passion for teaching and be able to collaborate with colleagues to ensure different sections of the same course progress at the same pace. Successful candidates will have a proven record of teaching Spanish to high school students and the ability to differentiate instruction.

The successful candidate will be expected to provide continuity by promoting student success and growth in both academic and interpersonal skills through instruction. It is important to create a safe and optimal learning environment in which student progress is documented, individual needs are addressed, and effective communication with students, parents, administration, faculty, and staff is maintained. As a representative of The John Carroll School, the employee is expected to support and carry out the school’s Catholic mission.

Essential Functions

  • Provide rigorous college-preparatory instruction while upholding the values and ideals of the school’s Catholic identity.
  • Deliver a grade-appropriate instructional program aligned with the curriculum; use differentiated instruction effectively.
  • Participate in faculty, curriculum, and team meetings, school committees, and professional development as needed.
  • Provide technology-enhanced instruction that promotes deeper understanding and real-world connections.
  • Perform assigned supervisory duties, such as advisory and class coverage.
  • Collaborate with colleagues to plan, implement, and evaluate instructional programs.
  • Prepare daily and weekly lesson plans.
  • Maintain an attractive, organized, and engaging classroom environment.
  • Meet with students for extra help during free periods and before/after school.
  • Support the school by attending evening and weekend events as needed, including admissions, athletics, club events, and parent-teacher conferences.
  • Chaperone a minimum of four extracurricular activities.
  • Communicate effectively with students, parents, colleagues, and administrators.
  • Accurately report grades and attendance and uphold the student code of conduct

Position Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree required; advanced degree preferred. Bilingual ability is a plus.
  • Previous teaching or student teaching experience required; experience teaching advanced levels preferred.
  • Proficiency in using classroom technology.
  • Demonstrated ability to engage students in meaningful learning experiences.
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills
  • Interest in foreign travel and/or hosting opportunities.
  • Employment is contingent upon satisfactory state and federal background checks and driving record.

Pay Range $45,000 – 60,000, Annualized
