
About the Job:
The Clinical Educator will plan, direct, coordinate and evaluate strategies to ensure appropriate onboarding, competency attainment and professional and preceptor development. The Perioperative Clinical Educator serves as a clinical expert to staff to facilitate the provision of patient-centered, evidence-based care to the surgical services population. As a transformational leader, the clinical educator serves as a role model, drives or facilitates change and promotes an environment of teamwork and collaboration. The Clinical Educator, Perioperative Services, works in collaboration with the Surgical Services leadership team and reports to the Director of Nursing Professional Development.
What You’ll Do:
Coordinate, develop and implement the unit-based orientation program and monitor the progress of new hires throughout the orientation period
Facilitate unit-based preceptor development
Assess needs, design, coordinate, implement and evaluate educational activities utilizing principles of adult learners to maintain and advance clinical competence of perioperative staff.
Review and revise unit-specific competencies in collaboration with unit leadership
Develop, coordinate and deliver perioperative training program for novice operating room RNs
Coach and mentor staff to enhance care delivery skills and foster safe, quality care
Evaluate processes and procedures within perioperative services areas
Assure compliance of area-specific educational requirements
Maintain documentation of required education
Contribute to annual performance appraisals of perioperative staff as requested
Collaborate with peers to promote unit, departmental and organizational goals
Participate in review and revision of perioperative and procedural areas policy and procedures based on evidence-based guidelines, standards and regulatory requirements (AORN, ASPAN, DNV etc.
Who You Are:
Master’s degree in Nursing or the ability to complete within one year of hire.
Current NH licensure as a Registered Nurse
Specialty certification attained within two years of hire.
Minimum of three years progressive clinical experience in the Operating Room.
