Sous Chef
About the Role:
The Sous Chef prepares and cooks meals for the community while ensuring high standards of food quality, safety, and kitchen cleanliness are consistently maintained.
Responsibilities:
Food Preparation: Prepare all meals according to the menu in a safe and sanitary manner under the direction of the Dining Services Coordinator/Manager.
Recipe & Portion Control: Ensure proper preparation, portioning, and serving of food in accordance with standardized recipes.
Quality Standards: Maintain high-quality food production aligned with established menus and recipes.
Timeliness: Prepare and deliver meals promptly according to scheduled service times.
Kitchen Oversight: Support overall kitchen operations and handle situations in accordance with company policies and procedures.
Resident & Guest Relations: Address dining-related concerns and provide responsive service to residents and guests.
Departmental Compliance: Follow all sanitation, safety, and cleaning procedures and schedules.
Dish & Equipment Care: Ensure proper cleaning and storage of dishes, utensils, and kitchen equipment.
Food Storage Management: Label and date all food items in refrigerators, freezers, and dry storage areas.
Food Safety & Cost Control: Monitor proper food handling and utilization to prevent contamination, maintain quality, and control costs.
Menu Improvement: Recommend menu or recipe adjustments to effectively utilize leftovers and available supplies.
Kitchen Sanitation: Clean and maintain all food service equipment, kitchen areas, and food storage spaces.
Team Coordination: Coordinate and support the work of dining service aides.
Temperature Monitoring: Ensure all required temperature logs are accurately completed each shift.
Order Assistance: Assist with receiving and organizing orders in a timely manner as needed.
Professional Appearance: Adhere to dress code standards, maintaining appropriate appearance and personal hygiene.
Qualifications:
Education: High school diploma or GED required.
Experience: One (1) to three (3) months of related experience or training preferred; equivalent combinations of education and experience may be considered.
Certification: Knowledge of special diets; must obtain and maintain any required local or state food handling, supervision, and sanitation certifications.
