About this role

We are seeking a motivated, results-oriented college student to join our Sound & Vibration team for the summer of 2024. The Carrier internship experience offers interns an environment that provides practical, challenging, and meaningful on-the-job work experience (i.e., Sound and Vibration testing product qualification and FEA modeling) and the opportunity to apply knowledge and demonstrate strengths in efforts to assist Carrier in achieving its business strategy.

Key Responsibilities

  • Sound & vibration testing, analysis, and sound power rating of residential heating and air conditioning products

  • Work closely with Sound and Vibration engineers, technicians, and product development teams to develop robust S&V design and lab test procedures to achieve reliable and better sound-quality products.

  • Data acquisition system hardware, vibration and sound instrumentation, and NVH test measurement & analysis software (e.g., B&K Daq systems and LMS Daq systems)

  • Experimental Test procedures and Standard work testing and qualification of HVAC products in the areas of sound, vibration, and structural dynamics

  • The operation and use of Sound and Vibration Test facilities, including AHRI-qualified Reverberation Sound Chamber

  • Noise, vibration, and sound quality analysis software (e.g., Siemens, B&K and Artemis (from Head Acoustics)

  • Finite Element Software (e.g., ANSYS Mechanical & Space Claim (Cad) for FEA analysis (uses for structural and vibration analysis), In-house Software tools for analyzing and optimizing Tubing Vibration response and Blower/Fan Torsional Resonance Prediction.

  • Learn and expand Modal testing and test-to-model correlation processes.

  • Participate and apply Transfer-Path Analysis (TPA) testing techniques for Load Determination for FEA.

  • Support harmonic load determination for use in Harmonic FEA modeling.

  • Improve standardization & automation of Vibration test data reporting.

Required Qualifications

  • Pursuing Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering, Aerospace Engineering, Acoustics Engineering, Multidisciplinary Engineering with a focus on Noise and Vibration Control, Mechanical Engineering with focus in Structural Dynamics and Vibro-Acoustics, Sound Quality Engineering, or related field

  • 3.0 or higher GPA

  • Must be eligible to work in the US without sponsorship.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications

  • Strong fundamentals or coursework in acoustics, vibration, dynamics, and solid mechanics

  • Basic understanding of digital signal processing

  • Basic knowledge of Sound and Vibration experimental methods, instrumentation, and measurement systems

  • Proficient in coding using MATLAB and Python programming platforms.

  • Exposure to basic FEA techniques and use of commercial FE codes

  • Strong organizational, analytical, and problem-solving skills

  • Self-driven and proactive

  • Ability to manage multiple tasks and priorities

  • Ability to communicate effectively at all levels

  • Team player and willing to collaborate with others on projects
