Step into the action as a Community Arts Sound and Light Technician , where no
two days are the same! From powering up the lights and sound for live concerts and
movies to helping transform venues for festivals, community celebrations, and special
events, you’ll be behind the scenes making unforgettable experiences happen.
You’ll work with performers, production crews, event organizers, and the public to bring
productions from concept to curtain call. You’ll program and operate lighting and sound
systems, troubleshoot technical challenges, coordinate event setups, and make sure
every stage, screen, speaker, and spotlight is ready for showtime.

exciting events—from **concerts and outdoor movies to arts festivals, community

Under the supervision or direction of the Technical Theater Coordinator, provides lighting design, sound system coordination, and event set-up for operations and activities of the Electric Theater Center, Community Arts Division and other City-related special events and programs; and performs related duties as required.

Examples of duties

1. Sets up and breaks down all events occurring at the Pioneer Center for the Arts Facility - including the Social Hall, Art Museum, Opera House and Plaza and the St. George Community Center. Events include but are not limited to weddings and receptions, poetry reading, meetings, Heritage Week, and all city sponsored events
2. Assures that the facility is clean and ready for the event.
3. Sets up for the event, and is present on-site during event (policing) in case any emergencies arise; such as heat, air conditioning problems, adding chairs or tables, or rearranging them throughout the event, cleans up messes that need immediate attention, checks that there are no lit candles or liquor on the premises, and/or kids playing in the fountain or leaving trash outside, sees that the users respect the facility.
4. Checks that there is no damage to the facility following the event, and that the kitchen is cleaned up per rental agreement such as, sweeping, and mopping floors, taking out the garbage.
5. Breaks down the event, cleans tables, puts away chairs and makes sure that the facility is ready for following events as soon as possible following the event, schedule permitting,
6. Assists with production of St. George Art Festival, St. George Marathon, and other City sponsored special events.
7. Provide customer service in person and over the phone; answering questions and/or referring customers to appropriate staff members.
8. Responds to public inquiries providing accurate information regarding recreation programs and services.

Typical Physical/Mental Demands/Working Conditions
Conditions and temperatures may vary depending on the assignment. Requires the use of vision and/or hearing to identify and evaluate emergencies. Must be able to respond quickly and appropriately to emergencies. Requires moderately heavy physical activity exerting 25-50 pounds of force occasionally and/or 10-25 pounds of force frequently. Mental demands of intermittent exposure to stress as a result of human behavior.

Note: Must be available to work weekends, evenings, holidays, and other schedules to help prepare for
recreation offerings. This is a part-time position with variable hours averaging less than 28 hours per week over a period of twelve months.

Qualifications

Education: High school diploma or equivalent preferred.

Experience:
Customer service experience preferred but not required.
Some closely related experience in the principles of sound engineering, sound board operation, principles of lighting design and programming and theatrical lighting operations preferred but not required
