The Sorting Hub Team Lead supervises and leads a team of sorting hub operators at Jumia, ensuring efficient sorting, handling, and processing of incoming and outgoing shipments while driving productivity, quality compliance, and team performance within the hub.

What You Will Be Doing

  • Supervise and lead a team of sorting hub operators and senior operators, providing guidance, coaching, and support.
  • Assign daily tasks and prioritize workload across the sorting hub team to meet operational targets and deadlines.
  • Ensure timely scanning at every leg of the shipment journey, updating systems for accurate movement tracking.
  • Drive same-day shipping targets for all Jumia Express shipments, with full adherence to cut-off times.
  • Coordinate pickup cut-off times with 3PL and controlled fleet partners, and manage exception handling for delayed or mismatched shipments.
  • Train, mentor, and performance-manage sorting hub operators, ensuring adherence to SOPs and safety protocols.
  • Monitor sorting equipment and machinery, identifying maintenance needs and coordinating repairs or downtime mitigation.
  • Conduct regular quality checks and inspections of sorted items to ensure compliance with customer specifications and regulatory requirements.
  • Resolve escalated operational issues and customer or vendor inquiries related to sorting and handling processes.
  • Maintain accurate records of sorting activities, including shipment volumes, processing times, and inventory levels.
  • Collaborate with Logistics, Warehouse, Network, and Customer Service teams to coordinate inbound and outbound shipments and facilitate smooth handovers.
  • Lead continuous improvement initiatives to optimize sorting processes, reduce errors, and improve overall efficiency.
  • Promote a culture of safety, quality, and teamwork among sorting hub staff.

What We Are Looking For

  • Experience in sorting hub operations, logistics, or warehouse management, with demonstrated leadership and supervisory skills.
  • Proven ability to operate and troubleshoot sorting equipment and machinery, including conveyors, scanners, and sorting systems.
  • Strong organizational and problem-solving skills, with the ability to prioritize, make decisions, and resolve issues in a fast-paced environment.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to lead and motivate a team.
  • Proficiency in using technology tools and systems for tracking, monitoring, and reporting sorting activities.
  • Knowledge of safety regulations and best practices in sorting hub operations.
  • Ability to work independently with minimal supervision and manage a team effectively.
  • Flexibility to work shifts, including evenings, weekends, and holidays.
  • Must have NYSC certificate or a valid exemption letter
  • Candidate must be based in Asaba
