Sonographer - UI Health Care Urbandale Clinic 90-100%-(26003394)

The University of Iowa Community Clinics is seeking a patient centered 100% (40 hours per week) Sonographer to perform a variety of ultrasound procedures/non-invasive procedures in our Urbandale Clinic. This position will perform a variety of complex ultrasound procedures at an advanced level that requires independent judgment and initiative in order to obtain information for use by physicians in diagnosing and treating patient illness, participate in educational activities, develop scanning protocols, provide leadership by participating in special projects and maintains multiple certifications in related specialty area specifically related to cardiology patients. This position will provide exceptional care providing Echo for pediatric patients as well as some adult. This position will mainly support our Urbandale Clinic but could float to other patient specialties/clinic locations including but not limited to: Pediatrics and/or Specialty/Outreach Clinics.

Characteristic Duties and Responsibilities
  • Perform complex diagnostic ultrasonography procedures including imaging and Doppler.
  • Consult with the interpreting physician regarding the ultrasound exam findings.
  • Document exam information as required by departmental standards.
  • Evaluate images of ultrasound exams and determine if the exam is of diagnostic quality.
  • Assist with and provide ultrasound guidance for intraoperative and invasive procedures.
  • Provide information and instructions to patient, patient’s family or others, regarding the nature of requested diagnostic and/or therapeutic procedures.
  • Perform patient care techniques including skin preparation, I.V. placement, vital sign monitoring and recording, and basic life support; prepare and administer contrast material to patients.
  • Maintain effective working relationships with faculty, staff, students and the public.
  • Instruct and evaluate sonography students on the operation of diagnostic equipment.
  • Instruct medical residents on operation of diagnostic equipment.
  • Maintain quality control with the ultrasound section in accordance with accepted departmental standards.
  • Determine equipment malfunctions and contact repair service.
  • Perform equipment calibration and sterilization as prescribed by standard accepted methods of operation.
  • Maintain certification as specified by the American Registry of Diagnostic Medical Sonographers.

Salary: $61,560- $111,422 at 100% Time (based on years of experience)

Percent of Time: 100% (40hours per week)

Schedule: Monday - Friday, variable hours between 7:30am - 5:30pm, no weekends, no call, no holidays

Qualifications

Education Required:
Requires completion of one of the following educational pathways:
  • CAAHEP accredited or equivalent program in Diagnostic Medical Sonography, Diagnostic Cardiac Sonography or Vascular Technology, or
  • Completion of a two-year or more accredited health science program (i.e. Radiologic Technology, Medical Technology, Nursing, etc.) plus completion of a twelve-month formal education program in Sonography, or
  • Completion of a bachelor’s degree plus completion of a twelve-month formal education program in Sonography
Experience Required:
  • Requires registration by the American Registration by the American Registry of Diagnostic Medical Sonographers in at least one specialty area (i.e. Pediatric Echocardiography (PE)). Not a requirement during application.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills are required.
  • Driver's License and ability to meet University of Iowa Feet Safety Standards is required.
Highly Desired Qualification:
  • Certification/membership in appropriate professional specialty.
  • Experience in preforming pediatric echocardiograms
  • Experience in performing fetal echocardiograms.

Desired Qualifications:
  • Previous experience in Echo
  • Previous experience with EPIC.
  • Prior work experience in Pediatrics.
