Job Overview

The Cambridge Senior Solutions Specialist role bridges the gap between complex domain science and advanced IT infrastructure. Designed specifically for researchers and advanced degree holders looking to pivot into the technology industry, this position translates scientific workload requirements into high-value High-Performance Computing (HPC) and AI/ML solutions. You will leverage your deep research background to act as a technical translator, assisting clients in building cutting-edge computational environments while developing core enterprise sales, operations, and technical expertise.

Responsibilities and Duties

  • Scientific Workload & Technical Architecture Consulting
  • Translate domain-specific research needs (e.g., bioinformatics, computational chemistry, physics, life sciences) into optimized HPC hardware, software, and cloud architecture solutions.
  • Perform deep-dive technology research on hardware, software, and services offerings to support advanced computational workflows.
  • Deliver technical demonstrations, coordinate computational workshops, and lead discussions on applying HPC and AI/ML to scientific research.
  • Gain technical mastery and industry certifications across our core solution stack, including NVIDIA, Dell, Lenovo, VAST, and IBM.
  • Sales Operations & Proposal Development
  • Collaborate with HPC Relationship Sales Managers to build technical proposals, draft accurate quotes, and manage statements of work (SOWs).
  • Develop pricing and sourcing strategies—weighing multi-vendor variables and distribution options—to maximize value for clients and profitability for Cambridge.
  • Project manage complex RFPs, coordinating cross-functional technical, business, and operational resources.
  • Maintain precise records within Cambridge’s Client Relationship Management (CRM) platform.
  • Maintain post-sales involvement to support deployment, ensure client satisfaction, and facilitate ongoing customer success.
  • Client & Ecosystem Engagement
  • Act as a technical liaison between scientific end-users, IT stakeholders, and key vendor partners.
  • Represent Cambridge at scientific conferences, HPC and AI trade shows, and academic tech symposiums.
  • Engage in peer-to-peer outreach, driving lead generation and connecting with scientific researchers to showcase Cambridge’s computing capabilities.
  • Collaborate cross-functionally with internal engineering, sales, and operations teams to streamline solution delivery.

Qualifications

  • Education: Master’s degree or Ph.D. in a scientific, computational, or quantitative discipline (e.g., Bioinformatics, Computational Chemistry, Physics, Data Science, or STEM fields) required.
  • Technical Aptitude: Hands-on experience with computational research methods, Linux environments, scientific scripting, or domain-specific computational software. Prior experience with HPC clusters or cloud environments is a strong plus.
  • Core Competencies: Exceptional communication skills with the proven ability to translate complex technical/scientific concepts to both technical and non-technical audiences. High attention to detail, strong problem-solving capabilities, and comfort with ambiguity.
  • Mindset: A proactive, self-driven desire to transition from academic/laboratory research into enterprise IT and commercial technology solution design.
  • Business Acumen & Skills: Strong baseline business acumen, along with polished presentation and formal technical writing skills.
  • Travel & Compensation Expectations: Willingness to travel for client engagements, conferences, and site visits as needed.
