Change the world. Love your job.

Texas Instruments is looking for an experienced Database Solutions Architect to join our team. The Application Database & Middleware Architect will establish and govern database and database-facing middleware architecture across the manufacturing application portfolio, including MES, Test Solutions, Scheduling and Simulation, AI/ML, and other plant applications.

The role will provide technical leadership across Oracle, Microsoft SQL Server, PostgreSQL and Sybase, while driving adoption of modern database, integration and data movement technologies. This is an application-side architecture role. It is responsible for database design, application performance, middleware connectivity, resilience patterns, standards and modernization.

Responsibilities include:

  • Define and govern database and database-middleware architecture across MES, Test Solutions, Scheduling and Simulation, AI/ML and other manufacturing applications.
  • Establish standards for data modelling, schema design, SQL development, indexing, partitioning, transaction management and data retention.
  • Deep expertise in at least two of Oracle, SQL Server, PostgreSQL and Sybase.
  • Provide technical leadership across Oracle, Microsoft SQL Server, PostgreSQL and Sybase.
  • Lead application and database performance optimisation, including query tuning, execution-plan analysis, locking, deadlocks and connection management.
  • Define resilient application patterns for connection pooling, retries, failover, replication, change data capture and data synchronisation.
  • Review database designs for new applications, major releases, integrations and multi-site deployments.
  • Drive database modernisation, platform migrations, legacy-system rationalisation and adoption of appropriate modern database technologies.
  • Establish monitoring and observability across applications, middleware and databases.
  • Act as L3 technical authority for major incidents, root-cause analysis, problem management and permanent corrective actions.
  • Develop reusable architecture patterns, deployment checklists, runbooks and troubleshooting guides for Site Teams.
  • Mentor database engineers and analysts and build cross-platform capability within the team.
  • Partner with Site Teams for integration and deployment, and with IT Infrastructure Operations for database engine and infrastructure services.
  • This role does not own server hardware, operating systems, storage, database installation, infrastructure patching, backups or infrastructure-level disaster recovery.

Minimum Requirements:

  • 10–15 years of experience in database engineering, application architecture or database performance engineering, including experience in a technical lead or architect role.
  • Strong expertise in at least two of Oracle, SQL Server, PostgreSQL and Sybase, with working knowledge across the remaining platforms.
  • Advanced knowledge of SQL tuning, execution plans, indexing, stored procedures, transactions, locking and concurrency management.
  • Experience with JDBC/ODBC, connection pools, database proxies, replication, CDC and application integration technologies.
  • Strong understanding of database availability, scalability, security, performance and application-side failover patterns.
  • Experience with database migrations, legacy modernization, automation and controlled database deployments.
  • Experience supporting high-volume, business-critical and 24x7 production applications.
  • Strong incident-management, root-cause analysis and structured problem-solving capabilities.
  • Ability to work effectively across Platform Teams, Site Teams, Infrastructure Operations, cybersecurity and external vendors.
  • Experience in semiconductor manufacturing, MES, equipment integration, scheduling or manufacturing applications is preferred.
  • Working knowledge of ITIL incident, problem, change, availability and capacity-management practices.
  • Bachelor’s or master’s degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, Engineering or a related discipline.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Strong verbal and written communication skills
  • Demonstrated strong analytical and problem-solving skills
  • Ability to quickly troubleshoot and resolve complex problem situations and design/develop/test solutions and enhancements to keep databases available
  • Ability to work in teams and collaborate effectively with people in different functions
  • Ability to effectively communicate to all layers of the organization
  • Ability to take the initiative and drive for results
  • Strong time management skills that enable on-time project delivery
  • Ability to work effectively in an interrupt-driven, fast-paced and rapidly changing environment
  • Demonstrated ability to build strong, influential relationships
