About the role
The Commercial Solution Architect is a hands‑on architecture role within Digital & Technology (D&T), accountable for designing end‑to‑end solution architectures for Commercial capabilities, ensuring solutions are implementable, secure, scalable, and aligned to agreed domain and enterprise standards.
Working under the Commercial Domain Architect, the role translates target architecture, standards and guardrails into practical solution designs that delivery teams can build and operate. The role will partner closely with Product Managers/Owners, engineers, data teams and delivery teams to ensure Commercial solutions are consistent with D&T direction — including alignment to Salesforce‑centred Commercial capability and the broader enterprise architecture direction.
This role is designed to be materially more technical and delivery‑proximate, providing credible system design leadership and implementation governance, and helping reduce fragmentation through reuse of patterns and shared platforms.
Role purpose
To design and govern practical, secure and scalable Commercial solution architectures that enable delivery teams to deliver outcomes quickly and consistently, aligned to the Commercial target architecture and enterprise standards.
Key accountabilities
The Commercial Solution Architect is accountable for:
Designing end‑to‑end solution architectures for Commercial initiatives (Sales, Marketing, Trade, Customer Engagement and related capabilities).
Ensuring solution designs align to Commercial domain guardrails and enterprise architecture standards.
Embedding security, privacy and compliance requirements into solution designs by default.
Providing architecture governance and implementation guidance to delivery teams through the full lifecycle (design → build → deploy).
Driving reuse of patterns and reduction of localised complexity to support convergence on strategic platforms.
Key responsibilities
1. Solution Architecture & Design (Commercial)
Produce solution designs that cover functional and non‑functional requirements, including scalability, resilience, maintainability and operability.
Translate business requirements into clear architecture blueprints, logical designs and integration patterns that engineering teams can implement.
Ensure designs align with Commercial domain priorities across Sales, Marketing, Trade Promotion, Customer Engagement and Commercial Analytics.
2. Salesforce‑ Aligned Solution Design
Work within the Salesforce‑centred commercial architecture direction set by the Commercial Domain Architect, ensuring solutions fit within the system‑of‑engagement strategy and reduce fragmentation.
Partner with Salesforce platform specialists and delivery teams to ensure consistent use of configuration patterns, integration approaches and data models (where applicable).
3. Integration, Data & Cross‑ Domain Alignment
Design seamless integrations between Commercial solutions and adjacent enterprise domains (e.g., ERP/finance, supply chain, data platforms), in line with agreed integration patterns.
Define APIs, middleware patterns and data flows to support secure, reliable end‑to‑end processes and consistent reporting.
4. Architecture Governance & Delivery Assurance
Provide implementation governance across delivery teams: design reviews, build alignment, and support to unblock architectural issues during delivery.
Ensure architecture decisions, patterns and trade‑offs are documented and understood by delivery teams.
Work with the Commercial Domain Architect to surface architectural risks, technical debt concerns and cross‑team dependencies early.
5. Security, Privacy & Compliance by Design
Ensure solutions embed security and privacy requirements from the outset, aligned to Haleon standards and relevant regulatory expectations.
Ensure data handling, integration and access patterns support appropriate controls, auditability and privacy requirements.
6. Standardisation, Reuse & Simplification
Drive reuse of reference patterns and components across Commercial solutions, reducing bespoke build and improving maintainability.
Identify duplication or tool sprawl and recommend simplified architectures aligned to strategic platforms and enterprise direction.
7. Stakeholder & Community Collaboration
Act as a bridge between Product, Engineering, Data, Security and Delivery stakeholders, ensuring architecture is understood and implemented consistently.
Contribute to architecture communities of practice, sharing learnings and improving patterns, templates and standards.
Your profile
Essential:
Demonstrated experience as a Solution Architect in Digital/Technology environments, with strong hands‑on system design capability.
Proven ability to translate business requirements into implementable solution architectures and guide delivery teams through implementation governance.
Understanding of integration patterns, APIs and data flows in enterprise environments.
Experience embedding security, privacy and compliance requirements into solution designs.
Solution design skills: logical architecture, integration, data flows, non‑functional design
Ability to provide pragmatic “minimum viable architecture” guidance that accelerates delivery
Clear communication and stakeholder management across Product, Engineering and Delivery teams
Structured problem solving and comfort operating across ambiguity and trade‑offs
Preferred
Experience designing Commercial solutions in CRM / customer engagement ecosystems and working in environments aligned to Salesforce‑centric strategies.
Experience operating within enterprise architecture standards and governance models at scale.
