Ideal Candidate
The Hillsborough County Solid Waste Department is seeking a Solid Waste Transfer Equipment Operator to operate semi‑tractor trailers, roll‑off trucks, and other motorized equipment and vehicles. The ideal candidate will have advanced experience in semi‑tractor‑trailer operation. Preferably, the candidate will possess knowledge of solid waste operations. The candidate must be able to tolerate loud sounds in a waste transfer station, strong odors from trash, and exposure to dirt‑filled grounds. The candidate will also perform manual labor in an outside environment, exposed to heat, sun, high humidity, rain, and other adverse weather conditions. The candidate will walk or stand for prolonged periods of time (approximately six (6) hours per day). The job also requires frequent fine manipulations, repetitive motion, lifting and carrying objects weighing up to 30 pounds, and occasional bending, crawling, climbing, and stooping. The candidate must possess a Class A commercial driver’s license and have the ability to pass a DOT/CDL physical examination annually. The Solid Waste Transfer Equipment Operator will report to work at the Hillsborough Heights Community Collection Center (Seffner). From that location, the operator can be dispatched to drive Class A or Class B commercial vehicles to transfer waste from Hillsborough Heights, Alderman’s Ford (Plant City), or Wimauma Community Collection Centers to final destinations such as the Southeast Landfill, the Resource Recovery Facility, or various other contracted recycling vendor locations as needed to ensure the operational success of the Solid Waste facilities serving the residents of Hillsborough County.
