Job Description

  • Responsible for creating detailed engineering designs and plans for solar photovoltaic (PV) systems.
  • Work closely with project managers, project developers and clients to develop efficient and cost-effective solar PV solutions that meet technical requirements and regulatory standards.
  • Expertise in solar PV technology, proficiency in design software, and the ability to collaborate effectively with cross-functional teams.

Missions

System Design:

  • Perform site assessments and gather relevant data to determine the optimal layout and configuration of solar PV systems.
  • Design solar array layouts, including placement of modules, inverters, mounting structures, and electrical components.
  • Calculate system sizing, energy production estimates, and financial analysis to support project feasibility studies.

Engineering Analysis:

  • Conduct shading analysis, electrical load calculations, and performance simulations using design software tools (e.g., PVsyst, Helioscope, PVSOL).
  • Evaluate system performance under various conditions (e.g., shading, temperature, tilt angle) to optimize energy yield and maximize return on investment.

Electrical Design:

  • Develop single-line diagrams, wiring diagrams, and electrical schematics for solar PV installations.
  • Size conductors, fuses, breakers, and other electrical components to ensure compliance with safety codes and standards (e.g., NEC, IEC).

Structural Design:

  • Design mounting systems and structural supports for solar PV arrays based on site-specific requirements and environmental conditions.
  • Perform structural analysis and calculations to ensure structural integrity and safety of the solar PV installation.
  • Permitting and Compliance:
  • Prepare permit packages and engineering drawings for submission to regulatory authorities and permitting agencies.
  • Ensure compliance with local building codes, zoning regulations, and utility interconnection requirements.

Collaboration and Communication:

  • Coordinate with project managers, project developers, contractors, and clients to review design requirements and address technical specifications.
  • Provide technical support and guidance to cross-functional teams throughout the project lifecycle.
  • Respond to RFIs during construction phase.
  • Communicate effectively with stakeholders to present design proposals, discuss project constraints, and resolve engineering issues.

Documentation and Reporting:

  • Prepare comprehensive design documentation, including drawings, specifications, calculations, and reports, as-builts as part of project close-out.
  • Maintain accurate records of design revisions, project updates, and correspondence with stakeholders.
  • Assist in the preparation of proposals, bids, and project documentation as needed.
  • Assist procurement in determining quantities, lead times, applicability of selected equipment and materials.

Technical skills

  • Proficiency in design software tools such as PVsyst, Helioscope, AutoCAD, or equivalent
  • Strong understanding of solar PV technology, electrical systems, and structural engineering principles
  • Familiarity with relevant codes, standards, and regulations governing solar PV installations (e.g., NEC, IEC, ASCE)

Behavioural skills

  • Excellent analytical skills and attention to detail
  • Effective communication and collaboration skills, with the ability to work in a team environment.
  • Self-motivated and able to manage multiple projects simultaneously
  • Willingness to stay updated on industry trends, advancements in solar technology, and best practices in solar PV design and engineering

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in electrical engineering, mechanical engineering, renewable energy, or related field;
  • Master's degree is a plus in the application consideration.

Experience

  • Minimum 2-3 yeras' experience in Photovoltaics (PV) and 3 years in Electrical Engineering

OR

  • Minimum 5 years' experience in Electrical Engineering
