Job Description

The Software Tester / QA Engineer – Junior supports software quality assurance by executing test plans and validating system functionality across development and test environments. This role focuses on functional, integration, and regression testing to ensure mission‑critical applications meet defined requirements and quality standards.

The tester collaborates with developers and stakeholders to identify defects, improve test coverage, and contribute to both manual and automated testing processes. They assist with test environment setup, data preparation, and reporting on test results to support informed release decisions.

Key Responsibilities

  • Execute functional, regression, integration, and system testing using established QA methodologies and test plans.
  • Develop, write, and maintain test cases, test scripts, and traceability matrices aligned with requirements.
  • Identify, log, and track defects using tools such as Jira or similar issue‑tracking platforms.
  • Support development of automated test scripts using frameworks like Selenium or similar tools.
  • Participate in test environment setup, test data preparation, and configuration management.
  • Assist with performance and basic security testing to validate system resilience and non‑functional requirements.
  • Collaborate with developers to improve code testability and resolve defects efficiently.
  • Produce test reports and metrics that communicate quality status and risk to stakeholders.

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in a related field (e.g., Computer Science, Information Systems) or equivalent relevant experience.
  • 0–3 years of experience in software testing or QA roles, with foundational knowledge of test methodologies.
  • Ability to design, implement, and report on comprehensive test plans and test cases.
  • Familiarity with defect tracking tools and basic scripting or automation concepts.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills and proficiency with standard office tools.
  • Active Secret clearance and U.S. citizenship.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Familiarity with automated testing tools and scripting languages.
  • Knowledge of Agile or DevOps development environments and workflows.
  • ISTQB Foundation Level or similar QA certification.
  • Experience testing mission‑critical systems in enterprise or federal IT settings.

Compensation ranges for ASM Research positions vary depending on multiple factors; including but not limited to, location, skill set, level of education, certifications, client requirements, contract-specific affordability, government clearance and investigation level, and years of experience. The compensation displayed for this role is a general guideline based on these factors and is unique to each role. Monetary compensation is one component of ASM's overall compensation and benefits package for employees.
