Job Description

Job Title

Software System Engineer

The Software System Engineer is responsible for translating stakeholder, user, and product needs into clear, testable, and traceable software requirements, and for ensuring that these requirements are consistently elaborated into system design, software design, integration, verification, and issue resolution activities throughout the product lifecycle. Working under general supervision, the role applies systems engineering and software engineering practices to drive end-to-end development in regulated environments, with particular attention to IEC 62304 compliance, design controls, and product quality. The role collaborates closely with software development, verification, architecture, quality, regulatory, clinical, and project teams in an Agile development context to refine requirements, support sprint-based design decisions, review design outcomes, and ensure timely closure of technical issues and complaints through structured investigation, root cause analysis, corrective actions, and preventive improvements. The role also contributes to modern engineering practices by leveraging AI-assisted and Harness Engineering approaches for requirements elaboration, issue analysis, coding quality, and engineering productivity, while ensuring responsible use, traceability, and compliance.

Job Responsibilities

  • Translate stakeholder, user, product, and regulatory needs into system and software requirements that are clear, testable, feasible, and traceable across the full development lifecycle.
  • Define, analyze, review, and maintain software requirements, including functional, interface, performance, reliability, safety, security, serviceability, and error-handling requirements.
  • Collaborate with software architects and development teams to ensure system intent is correctly translated into software architecture, software design, interface definitions, and integration strategies.
  • Coordinate system decomposition, system partitioning, and allocation of requirements to subsystems and software items, ensuring consistency, completeness, and technical coherence.
  • Support software development in regulated environments by ensuring development activities, deliverables, and traceability are aligned with IEC 62304, applicable quality procedures, and company design control requirements.
  • Operate effectively in Agile development ways of working by managing product backlog, and contributing to sprint planning, design reviews, acceptance discussions, and incremental clarification of requirements and design outcomes.
  • Drive investigation of technical issues, anomalies, complaints, and integration problems by reproducing issues, analyzing evidence, identifying root causes, coordinating resolution, and supporting effective corrective and preventive actions.
  • Contribute to risk management, verification planning, and integration planning by ensuring that requirements and design decisions are adequately covered by verification and that identified risks are translated into engineering actions.
  • Review system and software design proposals, identify requirement conflicts and design trade-offs, and recommend improvements to enhance reliability, maintainability, usability, performance, and product quality.
  • Contribute to software and system integration readiness by clarifying interfaces, supporting end-to-end scenarios, and helping teams define conditions for successful verification, validation, release, and maintenance.
  • Apply modern engineering practices, including Harness Engineering and AI-assisted coding or analysis approaches, to improve requirement elaboration, design reviews, defect investigation, and engineering productivity, while adhering to approved governance, coding standards, security, and compliance expectations.

Bachelor's / Master's Degree in Software Engineering, Computer Science or equivalent.

Work Experience

  • Minimum 3 years of experience in System Engineering, Software Engineering, System Design, Software Design, System Integration, or equivalent.
  • Experience in regulated product development, medical software, or similar quality-critical domains is preferred.
  • Demonstrated experience in requirements engineering, technical issue investigation, root cause analysis, and cross-functional collaboration in Agile development environments is expected.
  • Familiarity with IEC 62304, design controls, traceability, and modern AI-assisted engineering practices such as Harness Engineering or structured AI coding support is highly desirable.

Certifications

Certified Systems Engineering Professional (CSEP), Certified Product Owner, or equivalent system, software development certification is a plus.
