Software System Engineer

Your Tasks

OHB Czechspace is looking for a Software System Engineer to join our team and contribute to the development of next-generation spacecraft. In this role, you will be responsible for defining, maintaining, and validating the spacecraft software architecture and requirements, ensuring full alignment with system-level needs and interfaces across onboard and ground segments.

This is an onsite position, located in Brno, Czech Republic.
The position is offered as a fixed-term contract for 3 years, with the
possibility of extension. We are primarily considering candidates based in
the EU or with existing eligibility to work in the EU.

Software System Engineer is
responsible for the definition, consistency, and validation of the S/C software
architecture and requirements, ensuring alignment with system-level needs and
interfaces.
Elaboration of software system
architecture and design for spacecraft onboard and ground segments. Ensures
proper definition, completeness, and compliance of SW requirements.
The Software System Engineer is
accountable for spacecraft software configuration, releases, and interfaces
across all segments. Acts as the focal point for all spacecraft software
aspects, including coordination across avionics, payload, and ground segment,
and ensures software releases and compliance.

Mission level tasks:

  • Making or escalating (if needed) relevant technical
    decisions within the area of responsibility, ensuring alignment and
    reporting impacts
  • Proposing and implementing solutions for technical
    issues within the area of responsibility, including coordination and
    impact reporting
  • Technical CRM of assigned resources
  • Review and approve of all relevant documents
  • FDIR within the scope of responsibility
  • Ensure consistency between software and system-level interfaces
  • Responsibility for S/C SCOE
  • Provide SW level trade-offs and support the Mission Architect in relevant System-level trade-offs

Spacecraft development level tasks:

  • Define and maintain the spacecraft-level software architecture and develop and maintain the Software System Specification (SSS)
    • Ensures the information flow w.r.t. System level SW architecture
    • Responsible for the prioritisation of the SCSW
    • Accountable for the SCSW releases
    • Responsible for all SCSW related documents.
  • Creating, maintaining and controlling of assigned requirements.
    • Analyse System Requirements Document (SRD) and derive software-relevant requirements (Ensure bidirectional traceability)
    • Ensure consistency and completeness of software requirements across: P/F, P/L, Ground Segment
    • Support definition and evaluation of requirements compliance, deviations, and waivers
  • Act as the technical focal point for all spacecraft software interfaces, including:
    • Avionics ↔ Payload
    • Spacecraft ↔ Ground Segment
    • SW Engineering Team
  • Define and maintain software-related ICDs
  • Define, plan and supervised the software verification approach and strategy, including but not limited to:
    • Avionics SW verification and validation with respect to SSS (Requirements Baseline level) Support AIT and System Engineering
  • Support AIT and System Engineering from SW point of view during test campaign preparation and execution and PFM model integration, validation and launch
  • Consideration of the aspects of IT and cyber security

Your Qualifications

  • Relevant education
    Master’s degree in software engineering, computer science, aerospace engineering, systems engineering or a comparable technical field
  • Professional and methodical
    competence
    Several years of professional
    experience in software development or software/system engineering. Strong
    understanding of software development processes and methodologies, including
    agile approaches and associated tools.
    Knowledge of high-level
    programming languages and software development environments, as well as
    experience with development systems, continuous integration tools, and
    virtualization solutions. Good understanding of computer networks and
    experience with issue tracking systems.
    Solid understanding of system
    engineering approaches and their application in complex system environments.
  • Personal and Social

    skills combined with decision-making ability and assertiveness. Structured and
    analytical working style with a proactive, solution-oriented mindset.
    Ability to work independently with
    a high level of ownership, flexibility, and reliability. Demonstrates integrity

    Fluent in spoken and written
    English.
