Job Description

Join the leader in entertainment innovation and help us design the future. At Dolby, science meets art, and high tech means more than computer code. As a member of the Dolby team, you’ll see and hear the results of your work everywhere, from movie theaters to smartphones. We continue to revolutionize how people create, deliver, and enjoy entertainment worldwide. To do that, we need the absolute best talent. We’re big enough to give you all the resources you need, and small enough so you can make a real difference and earn recognition for your work. We offer a collegial culture, challenging projects, and excellent compensation and benefits.

Dolby is a global leader in providing audio and imaging solutions that create spectacular experiences on a range of diverse hardware and software platforms. Our technologies are deployed to millions of devices worldwide. As such, Dolby technology is exposed to non-licensed use which includes, but is not limited to, software piracy and intellectual property (IP) thievery. At the same time, our technologies may be used as an attack vector for breaking into our customers devices by exploiting existing SW vulnerabilities.

You will be part of a team that creates solutions to protect Dolby’s IP and reduce exploitable vulnerabilities in Dolby products. As a Software Security Engineer, you will contribute to product security initiatives with guidance from experienced team members.

Essential Job Functions

· Support threat analysis and risk assessment activities for Dolby products, considering both IP security and software vulnerabilities.

· Implement, test, and document IP protection mechanisms with support from the team.

· Investigate the exploitability of discovered vulnerabilities using established tools and methods.

· Develop and troubleshoot software in embedded environments spanning operating systems, applications, and hardware interfaces.

· Collaborate with engineers and security specialists, participate in technical reviews, and communicate findings clearly.

Required Education & Skills

· 2+ years of professional experience in software development, software security, or a related technical field.

· Working knowledge of C or C++, plus familiarity with Python.

· Familiarity with cryptographic concepts and exposure to a cryptographic library such as Crypto++, mbedTLS, or OpenSSL.

· Basic understanding of secure processing concepts and Trusted Execution Environments (TEE).

· Some practical experience with software debugging, reverse engineering, or security analysis.

· Familiarity with executable binary formats and operating system fundamentals.

· Understanding of common software vulnerabilities, such as buffer overflows and use-after-free issues.

· Experience using one or more tools such as debuggers, disassemblers, decompilers, emulators, or virtual machines.

· Good analytical, problem-solving, and communication skills, with a willingness to learn.

· Good command of English, written and spoken.

· Nice to have: participation in CTFs, personal security research, or DIY electronics and robotics projects.

About Dolby Laboratories

We're the rain on the roof in a movie. The music flowing through your earbuds when you're at the gym. The footsteps lurking behind you in a video game. The voice of a colleague on a call who seems to be right next to you. The sight of a breathtakingly bright and vivid sunset on your TV.

Making experiences come alive through technology is what we do. It's been our mission since day one.

It began with our founder, Ray Dolby, a visionary scientist and inventor. As a young engineer and music lover, he was driven to improve the listening experience. And with that simple motivation, plus countless hours of experimentation, he created a solution—a solution that was elegant and practical, highly sophisticated, and wholly devoted to the artist's vision. Even as we've become a global company, Dolby Laboratories continues to reflect Ray Dolby's values. Here, science meets art. And high tech goes far beyond computer code.

Founded in 1965 and headquartered in San Francisco, Dolby has grown into a leading global innovator and developer of audio, imaging and voice technologies for cinema, home theaters, PCs, mobile phones, and games. Our products include Dolby Digital Plus, TrueHD, Dolby Voice, Dolby Atmos and Dolby Vision. Today, over 2,000 individuals around the globe share their talents and energy to enable the most immersive experiences that technology can deliver.
