Job Description: Senior Software Engineering Manager – MMC (India)
About the Role
We are seeking a Senior Software Engineering Managerto lead engineering delivery for the Money Movement Capability (MMC)application in India. This leader will play a critical role in building and scaling U.S. Bank's India engineering presence for MMC by managing a high-performing team of software developers and quality engineers, strengthening engineering practices, and partnering closely with U.S.-based leaders and cross-functional stakeholders.
This is a managerial leadership role for a technically strong engineering leader who canoperatewith broad direction, focus on the bigger picture, and drive execution across multiple domains. The ideal candidate combines deep technical experience withpeopleleadership, architectural judgment, delivery rigor, and a strong understanding of payments systems. This role requires business knowledge in the Payments domain, including Zelle, RTP, andFedNow, along with the ability to build software products that are scalable,reliable, maintainable, and aligned to business strategy.
Key Responsibilities
1. Team Leadership & India Organization Build-Out
- Lead, grow, and develop a team of engineers and QEs in India supporting the MMC application
- Helpestablishand scale the India engineering organization, including hiring, onboarding, coaching, and creating a strong engineering culture for U.S. Bank
- Drive career development, technical mentoring, performance management, and succession planning across the team
- Create an accountable, inclusive, and high-performing environment focused on quality, ownership, and continuous improvement
2. Engineering Delivery & Execution
- Manage under broad direction andobjectives, with a focus on business outcomes, delivery quality, and operational stability
- Drive execution of the product roadmap on time and within budget while ensuring security, compliance, and reliability of core systems
- Guide teams toward strong coding practices, solid software design decisions, and high-quality delivery with minimal disruption to production
- Set expectations across the organization and ensure dependencies, risks, and delivery constraintsareidentifiedand addressed early
- Promote urgency, prioritization, and thoughtful trade-off decisions aligned to organizational strategy
3. Technical Leadership & Architecture
-Providehigh-level architectural guidance and help teams align solution design to business requirements, enterprise standards, and regulatory needs
- Ensure technical designs are clear, well thought out, and account for dependencies, failure states, maintainability, testability, scalability, and ease of support
- Develop andmaintainhigh-level and detailed architecture designs for complex technology solutions across multiple platforms, frameworks, and languages
- Lead architectural review sessions and technical design discussions across the organization
- Simplify product and technical design where possible to improve speed, resilience, and supportability
4. Cross-Team Strategy & Stakeholder Partnership
- Partner with business leaders, product managers, architects, and engineering teams in an agile environment to gather requirements and drive execution
-Participatein roadmap discussions and provide feedback to product and business teams based on engineering strategy, technical constraints, and delivery considerations
- Understand adjacent teams' business domains and influence cross-team decisions to deliver business value efficiently
- Communicate technical decisions, architecture strategies, and delivery risks effectively to both technical and non-technical stakeholders
5. Quality, Operations & Incident Leadership
- Drive a culture of quality,timelycode reviews, release readiness, and engineering discipline across the organization
- Coach teams on systematic debugging, problem diagnosis, and effective use of tools for troubleshooting
- Lead incident response as needed andestablishprocesses and tooling that improve issue detection, root-cause analysis, and repeat-issue prevention
- Ensure teams proactivelyhandlerisk, change, and ambiguity, escalating concerns early with practical solution options
Technical Scope
The Senior Software Engineering Manageris expectedto bring stronghands-ontechnical credibility and experience building modern distributed systems. This role will guide teams delivering software products and APIs in apaymentsecosystem withhigh expectationsfor availability, performance, resiliency, and compliance.
Expected technical experience includes:
-Experiencebuilding highly maintainable, extensible, and testable distributed systems
- Experience in microservices and API development using Java and Spring Boot
- Experiencedesigninglow-latency, high-throughput applications built for scalability and reliability
- Experience implementing user interfaces against REST APIs
- Experience with Kafka, event-driven patterns, and open-source technologies used in modern application development
- Experience with containerization and platform tooling such as Kubernetes, Rancher, Istio, Apigee, Jenkins/CloudBees, and GitLab
- Familiarity with source control management best practices, DevOps principles, and agile software delivery lifecycle practices
- Experience troubleshooting complex technical issues and driving resolution in production environments
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree, or equivalent work experience
-10to12years of relevant technical experience
- 5 or more years of leading a software engineering team
- Proven experience leading software engineers and offshore teams to deliver complex products with multiple stakeholders
- Strong understanding of software development processes, architecture, and engineering tools in enterprise environments
- Comprehensive knowledge of how business strategy aligns with technical and engineering strategy
- Strong analytical, planning, leadership, and communication skills
- Ability to communicate effectively with engineers, product owners, scrum masters, business partners, vendors, and customers
Preferred Qualifications
- Business domain knowledge in Payments, especiallyACH, Wires,Zelle, RTP, andFedNow
- Experience in Business Banking, Payment Services, Financial Services, or other regulated industries
- Advanced knowledge of distributed systems architecture, microservices architecture, API management, and integration platforms
- Experience overseeing integration of new systems and technologies into existing environments
- Experience balancing technical debt, feature delivery, and operational reliability at scale
- Certifications in Java, Spring, Microservices, Cloud, or Azure are a plus
