We are seeking applicants who will grow and thrive in our culture; be customer inspired, trusting, innovative, team-oriented, inclusive, results driven, collaborative, passionate, and flexible.

Solidigm is seeking a Software Engineering Manager to lead a storage-software team in the AI-centric era whom is responsible for both strategy and delivery across a portfolio of concurrent software initiatives, including both open source and closed source solutions. This role owns the full people-management lifecycle while also functioning as a strategy and portfolio owner: shaping the team's roadmap, structuring pathfinding efforts into workable sub-teams, balancing finite engineering capacity across competing priorities, and making resourcing and prioritization decisions under technical uncertainty. This is a systems-software leadership role at the intersection of host-side storage software, SSD firmware concepts, and data-center/AI storage strategy. The ideal candidate is comfortable running several distinct initiatives in parallel, each with its own charter, and making disciplined trade-off calls about where to invest.

Key Responsibilities

Team Leadership & People Management

  • Manage, mentor, and grow a team of software engineers working on host-side storage software, partnering closely with partner SSD engineering teams and business planners.

  • Own headcount planning and hiring: define job requisitions, drive requisition approvals, and staff open Software Development Engineer positions.

  • Set, track, and manage individual and team performance goals (e.g., via Workday), ensuring goals stay current and relevant throughout the review cycle.

  • Design and run structured onboarding and technical ramp-up programs, including deep-dive training on core subsystems and coordination of subject-matter experts.

Technical & Program Ownership

  • Define and evolve the software team's overall strategy and roadmap, translating group-level direction into concrete, charter-driven initiatives.

  • Structure pathfinding efforts into workable sub-teams with clear ownership (e.g., firmware POC, host-stack implementation, and validation groups) and finalize each group's charter.

  • Explicitly manage finite team capacity across competing initiatives; identify when parallel execution of multiple efforts risks completing none, and make or escalate the necessary prioritization calls.

  • Keep overlapping-but-distinct initiatives properly separated (independent charters and scope) to prevent scope creep and preserve delivery focus.

  • Frame initiatives around clear value propositions and align the team accordingly.

  • Track intercept windows against hardware/platform timelines and ensure software intercepts are optimized.

Technical & Program Delivery

  • Provide technical oversight across the team's domains.

  • Ensure engineers have properly provisioned development and validation environments.

  • Champion an AI-first development and validation methodology grounded in business results.

  • Champion quality and automation tooling to keep development practices efficient and reliable.

Cross-Functional Collaboration & External Engagement

  • Represent the software team in program-level planning forums; communicate status, risks, and resourcing needs to engineering leadership.

  • Coordinate with adjacent engineering teams, NAND/media experts, and cross-site workgroups on shared infrastructure and knowledge transfer.

  • Manage external ecosystem engagement, including open-source upstreaming strategy (maintainer outreach, community enablement) and coordination with external customers and partners — sequencing these against internal capacity.

  • Ensure marketing/ecosystem enablement (white papers, community materials) is planned and gated appropriately relative to technical readiness.

Qualifications

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor's or Master's degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, or a related field.

  • 7+ years of software engineering experience, including 2+ years managing a software team or leading with formal management scope.

  • Demonstrated ability to own strategy and set priorities for a team running multiple concurrent initiatives, including making trade-off decisions under constrained headcount.

  • Experience managing Agile/Kanban delivery and reporting for a software team.

  • Full people-management lifecycle experience: hiring/requisitions, goal-setting, performance reviews, and career development.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Strong background in systems/storage software: NVMe, SSD firmware/host-software interaction, or Linux storage stacks.

  • Familiarity with SPDK or comparable user-space storage frameworks.

  • Experience with flash translation layer (FTL) design, RAID/write-shaping, NAND type transitions (QLC/TLC/SLC), or power-fail/data-recovery design.

  • Experience with open-source upstreaming and maintainer/community engagement.

  • Exposure to AI-inference storage concepts (e.g., KV-cache SSDs, ephemeral/volatile-flash pathfinding) and TCO-based value framing.

  • Experience managing distributed/multi-site engineering teams and external customer/partner engagements.

  • Prior experience in a data-center SSD or enterprise storage company.
