About the Job:
The Software Engineering Manager at Comfrt will lead and grow a team of engineers building the high-quality, scalable systems that power our direct-to-consumer experience, as well as internal tools used by teams and departments across the company. You will balance hands-on technical leadership with people management, partnering closely with product, design, and data teams to deliver reliable, performant features that delight our community. This is a role for someone who is passionate about developing engineers, driving engineering excellence, and translating business goals into clear technical roadmaps.
Responsibilities:
- Lead, mentor, and grow a team of software engineers, fostering a culture of ownership, collaboration, and continuous improvement
- Set technical direction and drive the architecture, design, and delivery of scalable, reliable systems powering the Comfrt eCommerce experience
- Partner with product, design, and data teams to define roadmaps, scope projects, and translate business goals into clear engineering plans
- Manage team execution, including sprint planning, prioritization, and on-time delivery of high-quality features
- Conduct regular 1:1s, performance reviews, and career development planning to support each engineer’s growth
- Establish and uphold engineering best practices for code quality, testing, code review, documentation, and observability
- Own technical hiring for the team, from sourcing and interviewing to onboarding new engineers
- Drive operational excellence by improving system performance, reliability, and incident response processes
- Remove blockers and shield the team from distractions while keeping stakeholders informed of progress and risks
- Balance hands-on technical contributions with leadership responsibilities, staying close to the codebase and key technical decisions
Requirements:
- 7+ years of professional software engineering experience, with at least 2 years in a people management or team lead role
- Proven track record of leading, mentoring, and growing high-performing engineering teams
- Strong technical foundation with hands-on experience building and scaling web and backend systems
- Experience with modern web technologies and architectures in a high-traffic eCommerce or direct-to-consumer environments
- Solid understanding of software architecture, system design, APIs, and cloud infrastructure (e.g., AWS, GCP)
- Demonstrated ability to deliver complex projects on time while managing competing priorities
- Excellent communication and stakeholder management skills, with experience partnering across product, design, and data
- Experience establishing engineering best practices, including code review, testing, CI/CD, and observability
- Familiarity with agile development methodologies and modern team workflows
- Strong people leadership skills, including coaching, performance management, and career development
- Experience hiring and building diverse, inclusive engineering teams
- A bias toward action, ownership, and continuous improvement
- Experience collaborating closely with QA engineers to define test strategies, triage issues, and ensure quality across the release cycle
- Experience partnering with UI/UX designers to translate product designs into polished, accessible, and user-friendly interfaces
