Hej Software Engineering Leader (REX),

Inter IKEA Group connects IKEA franchisees with range development and suppliers and ensures alignment of the overall IKEA strategic direction. Every day, we strive to develop, produce, and sell products and services that are affordable and accessible to everyone.

This role is positioned in Core Business Range, Range Operations (IITSAB), Technology. You will belong to a domain within the Sellable Range Offer Management & Home Planning area and report to the Software Engineering Area Manager.

The Sellable Range Offer Management & Home Planning area supports two key aspects of the business. First, IKEA is on a transformation journey to combine our home furnishing expertise with strong digital capabilities. As part of this, we focus on digitalizing product content to enable effective planning, ordering, creation, and distribution of impactful content across all channels and markets.

Secondly, the area is dedicated to supporting and empowering customers to find their best home furnishing solutions tailored to their individual needs. This includes planning solutions for Kitchens, Bathrooms, Storage solutions, Sofas, and much more, supporting millions of users in creating a better everyday life at home.

About the role

As a Software Engineering Leader, you’ll play an important part in aligning engineering work across teams within a digital product area. You bring valuable IKEA and engineering experience into a setting where both hands-on software engineering and architectural governance are central to the role.

You will collaborate with stakeholders across IKEA, including product partners and other teams, to understand needs, identify synergies and contribute to seamless experiences.

Your primary focus will be to support technical consistency, scalability and quality across products and platforms, in close collaboration with Software Engineering Managers, Technology Leaders, Enterprise Architects and Software Engineers. The impact of our work continues to resonate in homes and hearts across the world.

On a typical working day, you will:

  • Align engineering initiatives and best practices across multiple teams within a product area
  • Contribute to and govern architecture design and refactoring in line with enterprise guidelines
  • Support teams with technical decision-making, design patterns and platform usage
  • Drive technical improvements to increase reliability, performance and efficiency
  • Act as an ambassador for software engineering and security best practices

What we’d like you to bring to the table

The role as Software Engineering Leader requires you to:

  • Have extensive experience in modern software engineering principles and practices
  • Have strong knowledge of architecture concepts and frameworks (e.g. TOGAF or similar)
  • Have experience governing digital product architecture across teams or product areas
  • Have experience mentoring and leading engineers in complex technical environments
  • Be able to understand and navigate complex business and technology landscapes
  • Have experience driving technical and architectural priorities and implementations across teams
  • Take ownership of a defined technical or product area and proactively drive its evolution and outcomes
  • Independently identify opportunities, challenges and improvements
  • Define and drive technical vision, goals, and roadmaps within your area of responsibility
  • Continuously challenge the status quo and push for improvements in ways of working, architecture, and technical quality

It’s a plus if you also:

  • Have deep knowledge of the technology stack within the relevant product area
  • Have experience working in large, distributed product organisations
