Collins Aerospace, an RTX business, provides technologically advanced and mission‑critical solutions for customers across the defense and commercial aerospace sectors. The Maritime Positioning, Navigation & Timing (PNT) organization supports the U.S. Navy’s GPS‑Based Positioning, Navigation and Timing Service (GPNTS), a next‑generation real‑time navigation data fusion and distribution system for surface platforms.
We are seeking a Software Engineering Intern to join the GPNTS program team. As an intern, you will work alongside experienced engineers to learn modern software engineering practices, contribute to real project activities, and gain exposure to Agile development, DevSecOps workflows, and CI/CD pipelines. This is an onsite role offering mentorship, hands‑on experience, and the opportunity to support systems used by U.S. Navy surface ships.
What You Will Do
• Support development and enhancement of software features for the U.S. Navy’s GPNTS navigation data fusion system
• Assist with debugging, troubleshooting, and basic issue investigation
• Help develop and run automated tests within CI/CD workflows
• Contribute to software documentation, interface descriptions, and design review preparations
• Participate in Agile ceremonies including daily standups, sprint planning, and sprint reviews
• Learn and apply secure coding principles and DevSecOps‑aligned workflows
• Collaborate with systems, hardware, and test engineering teams to support software integration
• Maintain project documentation for configuration management and engineering reviews
What You Will Learn
• How mission‑critical software is developed, tested, and deployed in a defense environment
• Fundamentals of Agile development and real‑world cross‑functional teamwork
• DevSecOps concepts including secure coding, automated testing, and CI/CD pipelines
• Linux‑based development environments, tools, and workflows
• Software lifecycle practices including design documentation, interface definition, and technical reviews
• How navigation sensors, data fusion techniques, and PNT systems enable Fleet operations
• How multidisciplinary engineering teams (software, systems, hardware, test) work together on large programs
Qualifications You Must Have
• Must be pursuing a bachelor’s degree in computer science, computer engineering, software engineering, or related STEM field
• Foundational experience with one or more programming languages (C, C++, Python, or Java)
• Basic understanding of software development fundamentals and version control
• Familiarity with Linux environments or basic command‑line usage
• Exposure to Agile development concepts through coursework or project work
Qualifications We Prefer
• Academic or project experience with embedded systems, networking, or real‑time software
• Familiarity with CI/CD concepts or tools such as GitLab CI or Jenkins
• Exposure to secure coding concepts or DevSecOps practices
• Experience with automated testing frameworks
• Linux development experience, including working with Linux‑based build systems, tools, or applications
• Experience using Jira, Confluence, or similar collaboration tools
• Strong communication and teamwork skills

The salary range for this role is 42,000 USD - 88,000 USD. The salary range provided is a good faith estimate representative of all experience levels.
