These roles are eligible for an incentive target of up to 10% (Senior), 15% (Staff) and 20% (Sr Staff) 10-20%, based on the achievement of individual and company performance objectives in accordance with the current terms of the incentive program which are subject to change.

As a Software Engineer at Grainger, you will design, build, test, deploy, and support scalable, reliable, and secure software solutions that align with business needs and technical strategy. You will partner with engineers, architects, product managers, engineering leaders, and other stakeholders across the full software development life cycle. Depending on the level, you will independently deliver complex solutions, lead technical execution for a team, or serve as a technical authority who shapes architecture and engineering direction across teams and domains. At every level, you will remain hands-on, contribute to engineering excellence, and help strengthen the capabilities of others through collaboration, coaching, and knowledge sharing.
Delivers complex applications and product solutions within a team or domain.
Provides day-to-day technical guidance, coaches junior engineers, and drives sound engineering practices.
3+ years
Leads technical execution for highly complex applications and aligns delivery to strategic direction.
Influences team standards, leads knowledge sharing, mentors developers, and partners with technology management.
5+ years
Shapes architecture and technical direction across complex systems, teams, or domains with broad organizational impact.
Serves as a technical authority and trusted advisor, leads major technical initiatives, and raises engineering capability across the organization.
7+ years
The final job title and level will be determined based on the selected candidate’s experience, demonstrated technical depth, leadership scope, and the needs of the team. Responsibilities and qualifications may vary within the ranges described above.
