Job Description

Minimum qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent practical experience.
  • 8 years of experience in software development.
  • 5 years of experience in distributed cloud computing including 3 years of experience in containerization, container orchestration, or operations management.
  • 3 years of experience in a technical leadership role.
  • 2 years of experience in a people management or team leadership role.

Preferred qualifications:

  • Master's degree or PhD in Computer Science or a related technical field.
  • 3 years of experience working in a complex, matrixed organization.
  • Experience implementing and managing agentic AI solutions and workflows for compute infrastructure.

About the job

As a Software Engineering Manager, you will oversee the technology powering the massive infrastructure of the world's most companies. Your mission is to ensure the sustainable success of Kubernetes while positioning it as the premier platform for the next generation of AI/ML workloads. You will partner with product teams to optimize Google Kubernetes Engine (GKE) for the unique, high-performance demands of machine learning. You will shape the product roadmap to evolve our core infrastructure, meeting both current stability needs and future AI demands. You will manage a team of 8–10 engineers, cultivating an environment of psychological safety, high execution, and continuous innovation, and will balance production-grade container orchestration with the rapid evolution of agentic interfaces.The US base salary range for this full-time position is $207,000-$300,000 + bonus + equity + benefits. Our salary ranges are determined by role, level, and location. Within the range, individual pay is determined by work location and additional factors, including job-related skills, experience, and relevant education or training. Responsibilities

  • Shape and land the future direction of how GKE will be consumed, delivering new interfaces for accessing GKE, and leveraging this for agentic workflows.
  • Set clear expectations with individuals based on their level and role, aligned to the broader organization's goals. Meet regularly with individuals to discuss performance and development, and provide feedback and coaching.
  • Develop the mid-term technical goal and roadmap within the scope of your (often multiple) team(s). Evolve the roadmap to meet anticipated future requirements and infrastructure needs.
  • Impact through all levels of GKE, from the control plane through to the core infrastructure, by communicating, designing, and driving decisions effectively through developing design documents and code across a wide number of organizations.
  • Review code developed by other engineers and provide feedback to ensure best practices.
