About the team:

The Mendix Cloud Logging & Monitoring team is responsible for building and maintaining the complete solution which provides our customers with logs, metrics and alerts of their applications running on our infrastructure at any point. The team is responsible for this infrastructure and the underlying services, spread across 30+ production deployments across the globe, 24/7, with 4 nines of uptime

The role

In the role of a Software engineer in the Mendix Cloud Logging & Monitoring team you will play a pivotal role in designing, developing, and operating the backend applications that help customers understand their apps better.

Your expertise will be instrumental in ensuring the reliability, scalability, and efficiency of our logging & monitoring infrastructure, enabling seamless data protection for our diverse application ecosystem.

As part of our continuous effort to innovate and improve our offerings, we are seeking a talented software engineer to join our dynamic team responsible for building and maintaining the logging and monitoring services, a critical component of our Cloud product.

We're looking for you if you have:

  • 5 plus years of experience in software development
  • Proficiency in programming languages such as Python, Java, or Go, with a strong emphasis on building scalable, distributed systems.
  • Strong understanding of cloud computing concepts, with hands-on experience in AWS services and Unix/Linux fundamentals.
  • Experience with running applications at scale with cloud orchestration technologies like Kubernetes and/or Cloud Foundry and understanding of Kubernetes observability including container logs, events, and cluster
  • monitoring.
  • Familiarity with infrastructure as code (IaC) principles and tools, such as Terraform, Spacelift, for provisioning and managing cloud infrastructure.
  • Knowledge of distributed tracing and trace propagation across microservices.
  • Excellent communication skills with the ability to articulate technical concepts to both technical and non-technical stakeholders.
  • Demonstrated ability to make critical decisions under pressure, prioritize tasks effectively, and meet tight deadlines.
  • Experience working in Agile environments, utilizing methodologies like Scrum or Kanban.
  • Passion for code quality and know how to lead by example: from a clean Git history to well thought-out unit and integration tests

Even better (but not essential!) if you have experience with:

  • Python for scripting and automation tasks.
  • Understanding of OpenTelemetry (OTel) and telemetry instrumentation.
  • Experience with integrating applications with APM platforms such as Datadog, New Relic, Splunk, AppDynamics, Grafana, etc.
  • CI/CD tooling such as Jenkins, Spacelift, etc.
  • Mendix low-code application development.
  • Relevant certifications (e.g., AWS Certified Developer Associate) are a plus.

You’ll help drive digital innovation by:

  • Collaborating with cross-functional teams to understand requirements, prioritize tasks, and deliver solutions that meet business objectives.
  • Driving continuous improvement initiatives to optimize processes, nhance automation, and increase efficiency in managing backups across our Cloud product.
  • Staying updated on industry trends, emerging technologies, and best practices to incorporate them into the development roadmap of the backups service.
