All about the role:

We are seeking a highly experienced Senior Backend Engineer with proficiency in Kotlin, preferably combined with Ktoror a similar asynchronous backend framework. The candidate will become an integral part of our team working with sustainable consumer products and payments globally. You will be contributing to a large-scale, multi-regional commerce platform serving millions of consumers worldwide.

Furthermore, the role comes with end-to-end autonomy in application design, with a high degree of influence over architecture and implementation of the microservices being built, combined with full responsibility and ownership for their quality, scalability, deployment and lifecycle. The perfect candidate is a passionate developer who has worked with multi-regional backends where multiple platform installations run across multiple clusters, time zones, and datacenters worldwide.

Responsibilities:

  • Develop and maintain robust and scalable backend servicesprimarily using Kotlinand Ktor

  • Engage in architectural discussions and contribute to the design of a multi-regional backend.

  • Maintain and manage SQLand NoSQL databases

  • Integrate with search clusters such as OpenSearch

  • Work on our payment & product platform and ensure fault tolerance.

  • Manage deployments with tools like Github, Gradle& CircleCI

  • Monitor built services directly in cluster and through services such as Sentryand Datadog

  • Mentor junior engineers, guiding them on best practices.


Required Qualifications:

  • 4+ years of professional backend engineering experience.

  • 3+ years of developing in Kotlin, with extensive understanding of modern and asynchronous backend frameworks

  • Worked with Kafkaor a similar event streaming platform

  • Fluent in Git, CI/CD, and build automation

  • Knowledge of how to deploy, ingress, monitor, and manage backend servicesin a Kubernetes cluster

  • Excellent communication skills and ability to explain technical concepts to non-technical stakeholders.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience working with Ktorin a large-scale production environment is a major qualifier.

  • Hands-on experience and understanding of payment platformsis advantageous.

  • Familiarity with AWSand infrastructure-as-codetools such as TerraformTerragrunt
