Position Title: Software Engineer II (RPG Developer II)

Work Set Up: Work from home

Schedule: 6:00 PM to 3:00 AM PH Time

Job Location: Clark Outsourcing - Building 35 Philexcel Business Park, Clark Pampanga

Quick Rundown:

The RPG Software Developer is responsible for designing, developing, enhancing, and supporting IBM i (AS400) business applications used in manufacturing, distribution, logistics, and financial operations. The role involves maintaining mission-critical systems, developing scalable solutions, and collaborating with stakeholders to support business needs and operational efficiency.

What You’ll Do:

Core Functions

  • Owns and supports custom RPG applications supporting operational continuity and customer fulfillment.

  • Serves as a technical resource for IBM i applications integrated with ERP, logistics, and external partner systems.

  • Designs, develops, enhances, and supports RPG IV and Free-Form RPG applications, CL/CLLE programs, SQL queries, DB2 for i databases, and batch processing solutions.

  • Ensures stability, reliability, and accuracy of production systems through proactive monitoring, troubleshooting, and maintenance.

  • Reviews and troubleshoots issues and completes root cause analysis and long-term corrective actions.

  • Supports continuous improvement initiatives by identifying opportunities for system optimization and modernization.

  • Participates in planning and execution of system changes with a focus on minimizing business disruption.

  • Completes knowledge transfer activities and collaborates with team members to support shared ownership of systems and applications.

Agile Development

  • Works with the team to break down and complete work in an iterative, collaborative fashion.

  • Breaks down epics and features into stories.

  • Refines stories with scrum and Kanban teams to ensure understanding of value to be delivered and clear acceptance criteria.

  • Reviews quality assurance testing plans to ensure completeness for each story and determines appropriate inclusion in regression testing where appropriate.

  • Collaborates with product team members to review stories and ensure acceptance criteria are met.

Manufacturing & Operational Support

  • Supports end-to-end manufacturing workflows including order-to-cash, inventory transactions, production processing, shipping execution, invoicing, and financial close activities.

  • Provides application support during operationally critical periods such as production runs, shipping cut-off times, and month-end or year-end processing.

  • • Collaborates with operations, supply chain, finance, customer service, and IT teams to troubleshoot and resolve business-impacting issues.

  • • Translates operational requirements into technical designs that align with business priorities and system constraints.

Technical Environment

  • Designs, develops, enhances, and supports RPG IV and Free-Form RPG applications with supportingCL/CLLE programs.

  • Supports DB2 for i physical and logical file design, indexing strategies, SQL queries, and batch processing.

  • Develops and supports system interfaces such as EDI transactions, APIs, flat-file exchanges, scheduled jobs, and batch processing.

  • Supports integration of IBM i applications with internal and external systems through automated jobs, file transfers, and scheduled interfaces.

  • Works within IBM i (AS400) platform supporting manufacturing and distribution systems, including legacy and partially modernized application components.

Data & Technology

  • Demonstrates awareness of IBM i technologies, RPG development practices, and enterprise application trends that may add value to ATC.

  • Understands how manufacturing and distribution organizations leverage operational and financial data to support business performance and efficiency.

  • Identifies opportunities where technology, automation, integrations, or process improvements can improve operational effectiveness, system reliability, and business performance.

Collaboration

  • Actively participates in discussions to solve business problems and works with the team to develop a step-by-step approach to create solutions.

  • Creates and contributes to a safe working and sharing environment that encourages team member participation.

  • Listens, learns, and integrates multiple perspectives into solutions.

  • Articulates understanding of various perspectives, evaluates options with the team, and helps drive solutions forward.

  • Assists in mentoring junior developers and IT team members as needed.

What We’re Looking For:

  • Bachelor’s degree in computer science, Software Engineering, Information Technology, or related field is required

  • Minimum of 2-4 years of hands-on RPG development experience on IBM i / AS400 systems

  • Manufacturing, textile, or high-volume distribution industry experience is preferred

  • Experience supporting EDI integrations with retail or logistics partners is preferred

  • Exposure to IBM i modernization efforts such as program refactoring, performance tuning, or interface modernization is preferred

  • Strong documentation skills and experience supporting cross-functional business teams

  • Strong proficiency in RPG IV, Free-Form RPG, CL/CLLE, and DB2 for i

  • Demonstrated experience supporting Frontier ERP in a manufacturing or distribution environment

  • Experience supporting Logimax or comparable logistics or warehouse management applications

  • Proven ability to diagnose and resolve complex production application and data issues

  • Ability to work independently in a remote environment while supporting operational requirements
