Microsoft Entra ID is at the center of Microsoft’s cloud strategy. We build and operate critical authentication, authorization and directory services that are used by millions of Azure, Microsoft 365, Xbox and Windows users worldwide. In the mobile-first cloud-first world, sign-in and sign-up are the front door for reliable end-user experience to use any of Microsoft cloud services.  Entra ID hosts millions of tenants and billions of identities. It serves billions of requests per day in the stacks powering core authentication and programmability.  Our team builds the authentication technologies and security capabilities that enable secure sign-in and access to Microsoft services across Windows, mobile, and cloud platforms. We develop core identity components used by Microsoft's authentication clients, device identity systems, token protection technologies, and emerging AI scenarios. As AI agents increasingly access enterprise resources and act on behalf of users, we are helping define the next generation of secure identity experiences for both people and AI. We are looking for a Software Engineer II to help build reliable, scalable, and secure client-side identity and authentication technologies. You will work on challenging security and systems problems, collaborate across Microsoft, and contribute to technologies that millions of people depend on every day.

Responsibilities

  • Design and develop authentication, identity, and security features for Windows, Linux, and cross-platform client technologies, including emerging AI scenarios.
  • Partner across engineering, product, and design to build customer-facing experiences that simplify complex workflows, reduce friction, and create moments of delight for users.
  • Develop secure, reliable, and reusable client-side components and platform capabilities that are well-defined, diagnosable, testable, and maintainable.
  • Ensure testability, portability, reliability, and maintainability, and know when code is ready for delivery.
  • Focus on customer/partner needs through a data-driven approach.
  • Participate in on-call rotations, incident response, and root cause analysis.
  • Troubleshoot and optimize automation, reliability, and monitoring for LiveSite.
  • Evangelize the usage of AI to increase productivity and quality on the team.

Qualifications

Required Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science or related technical field AND 2+ years technical engineering experience with coding in languages including, but not limited to, C, C++, C#, Java, JavaScript, or Python OR equivalent experience.

Other Requirements:

Ability to meet Microsoft, customer and/or government security screening requirements are required for this role. These requirements include but are not limited to the following specialized security screenings:

  • Microsoft Cloud Background Check: This position will be required to pass the Microsoft Cloud Background Check upon hire/transfer and every two years thereafter.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Master's Degree in Computer Science or related technical field AND 3+ years technical engineering experience with coding in languages including, but not limited to, C, C++, C#, Java, JavaScript, or Python OR Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science or related technical field AND 5+ years technical engineering experience with coding in languages including, but not limited to, C, C++, C#, Java, JavaScript, or Python OR equivalent experience.
  • Experience developing software for Windows or Linux platforms using C++ or other programming languages.
  • Experience with authentication and authorization technologies, including OAuth 2.0, OpenID Connect, token-based authentication, or identity systems.
  • Experience or interest in AI security, agent identity, or emerging agentic scenarios.
  • Experience using AI-assisted development tools to improve engineering productivity and software quality.

Software Engineering IC3 - The typical base pay range for this role across the U.S. is USD $102,100 - $202,200 per year. There is a different range applicable to specific work locations, within the San Francisco Bay area and New York City metropolitan area, and the base pay range for this role in those locations is USD $133,800 - $219,200 per year.
