Join the Bristol Myers Squibb Enterprise Data Engineering and Platform team as an AI / Data Engineer (Mid-Level), where you will design, develop, and operate scalable cloud-native data pipelines and Generative AI solutions that power enterprise search, analytics, and AI-driven insights across R&D and enterprise platforms.

In this role, you will work with structured and unstructured data (databases, APIs, documents, PDFs, images, and audio) and collaborate closely with data scientists, MLOps engineers, platform teams, and product partners. You will help deliver GenAI-powered capabilities that enhance scientific discovery, improve data accessibility, and enable smarter decision-making in a regulated pharmaceutical environment.

Responsibilities

  • Design, build, and operate scalable data pipelines for structured, semi-structured, and unstructured data sources (databases, APIs, CSVs, documents, images).

  • Develop and deploy Generative AI solutions, including prompt engineering, retrieval-augmented generation (RAG), and orchestration of LLM workflows for research and business use cases.

  • Partner with MLOps teams to deploy, fine-tune, and operationalize embedding and transformer models using managed and open-source platforms.

  • Engineer and maintain enterprise search solutions, including index schema design, custom analyzers, and relevance tuning to ensure performance and scalability.

  • Build and support real-time and serverless data services, including streaming and transcription workflows with downstream analytics.

  • Collaborate with cross-functional stakeholders to align technical delivery with research objectives, timelines, and success metrics.

  • Participate in code reviews, design discussions, and agile ceremonies to ensure high-quality, maintainable solutions.

  • Troubleshoot and resolve issues across cloud infrastructure, data pipelines, search platforms, and AI services.

  • Produce clear technical documentation and communicate designs and solutions to both technical and non-technical audiences.

  • Continuously evaluate emerging cloud, data engineering, and GenAI technologies to improve platform capabilities.

Qualifications & Experience

  • Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related field.

  • 3-5 years of experience in software or data engineering with a strong focus on cloud-native solutions.

  • Strong programming skills in Python, with working knowledge of PySpark, SQL, and NoSQL databases.

  • Hands-on experience with AWS services, including EC2, S3, Lambda, RDS/DynamoDB, Datazone, SQS/SNS, API Gateway, and AWS Glue.

  • Proven experience building and optimizing ETL / data pipelines at scale.

  • Practical experience with Generative AI frameworks and platforms (e.g., OpenAI, Amazon Bedrock, HuggingFace, LangChain).

  • Familiarity with enterprise search technologies such as OpenSearch, Apache Solr, Coveo, or Sinequa.

  • Experience working with both structured and unstructured data, including documents and media content.

  • Solid understanding of cloud architecture patterns, security principles, and best practices.

  • Strong analytical, problem-solving, and communication skills, with the ability to work independently and collaboratively in cross-functional teams.

Good to Have

  • Experience with Databricks, DevOps, or containerization technologies (Docker, EKS, ECS).

  • Familiarity with MLOps practices, model deployment, and monitoring.

  • Prior exposure to the pharmaceutical or life sciences domain.

If you come across a role that intrigues you but doesn’t perfectly line up with your resume, we encourage you to apply anyway. You could be one step away from work that will transform your life and career.
