Job Description

We are seeking a skilled Mainframe Systems Programmer to manage, maintain, and optimize our critical z/OS environment, with a specialized focus on job scheduling and automation using Broadcom (CA) tools. The ideal candidate will leverage their expertise in CA7 Workload Automation and CA Automic Automation Intelligence (AAI) to ensure efficient and reliable batch processing. The role requires strong problem-solving abilities and a focus on utilizing REXX and Python for scripting and modern automation initiatives.

Key Responsibilities

  • Workload Automation Management: Install, configure, maintain, and support CA7 Workload Automation and CA Automic Automation Intelligence (AAI) environments, ensuring high availability and performance of all scheduled jobs.
  • Automation and Scripting: Design, develop, test, and optimize REXX and Python scripts to automate routine system tasks, improve operational efficiency, and integrate mainframe processes with modern platforms.
  • System Maintenance: of z/OS operating systems and third-party vendor software using tools like SMP/E, ensuring all software is at supported levels.
  • Performance Tuning and Analysis: Diagnose system and performance problems related to batch processing and overall system health, implementing configuration changes and best practices for optimization.
  • Collaboration: Work closely with application development teams, operations staff, and other IT stakeholders to perform installations and upgrades, and ensure seamless integration within the mainframe ecosystem.
  • Documentation: Maintain comprehensive documentation for system configurations, processes, and disaster recovery procedures.

Required Skills and Qualifications

  • Experience: Proven experience as a Mainframe Systems Programmer or similar role, with strong hands-on experience in the IBM z/OS environment.
  • Technical Proficiency:
    • Expertise in CA7 Workload Automation, including job scheduling, monitoring, and troubleshooting commands.
    • Familiarity with CA Automic Automation Intelligence (AAI) for enhanced visibility and management of the workload environment.
    • Proficiency in REXX for automation, scripting, and customization of the mainframe environment.
    • Experience with Python programming for modern automation, data analysis, or integration projects involving mainframe systems.
    • Strong knowledge of JCL (Job Control Language), TSO/ISPF, and common mainframe utilities.
    • Familiarity with other mainframe technologies like COBOL, CICS, DB2, or VSAM is a plus.
  • Problem-Solving: Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills to diagnose and resolve complex system issues.
  • Communication: Strong communication and collaboration skills to interact effectively with cross-functional teams and stakeholders.
  • Education: A bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or a related field, or equivalent work experience.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Certifications in mainframe technologies or specific CA products.
  • Experience with other automation tools or monitoring solutions.
