Job Description

Interested in a career that matters?

Are you passionate about developing innovative software solutions that create measurable business value? As our Software Engineer, Advanced Process Control, you will help enable stable, efficient, and scalable production processes by developing and deploying advanced control solutions.

This is your opportunity to combine process understanding, data, and software engineering to improve production performance, quality, and robustness. You will work closely with global production teams and help turn process data into real-time control actions and insights that support reliable operations and future improvements.

You will be part of Process Information Technology (PIT), a team of 15 dedicated colleagues working in a proactive, forward-thinking, and inclusive environment. Together, you will collaborate across production, engineering, automation, and IT to strengthen Novonesis’ platform ecosystem and help shape how advanced process control is used across our production sites.

The role & your impact

As Software Engineer, Advanced Process Control, you will develop, maintain, and scale advanced process control solutions for fermentation and other industrial processes. The role has a balanced focus across execution, optimization, and innovation.

You will support stable daily operations, continuously improve production performance, and contribute to new control concepts and data-driven solutions that can be scaled across sites. Your technical expertise, collaborative mindset, and focus on robust software solutions will help strengthen our engineering culture and create measurable business value.

Your key responsibilities in this role

  • Develop and optimize advanced process control solutions for fermentation processes, ensuring stable and reliable operation through the design, implementation, maintenance, and continuous improvement of control strategies that enhance process consistency, robustness, and production performance.

  • Leverage process data and domain expertise to drive production improvements by reducing variability, improving yield, enhancing quality across batches, and translating process knowledge into practical, data-driven control logic in close collaboration with operators and process specialists.

  • Deploy, standardize, and scale APC solutions across sites, ensuring consistency and reuse while supporting production through a combination of operational daily support and tactical continuous improvement initiatives.

  • Drive innovation and engineering excellence by developing new control concepts, data-driven solutions, and scalable approaches for future production improvements, while strengthening code quality, maintainability, technical standards, and architectural excellence, and inspiring end users to adopt and expand the use of advanced process control solutions.

What you’ll need to be successful in this role

  • Relevant education and experience: MSc or BSc in Software Engineering, Computer Science, Data Engineering, Automation Engineering, or a related discipline, combined with 3 to 7 years of experience in software engineering, process engineering, automation, industrial IT, data engineering, or data/process optimization within production environments. Experience working in agile and iterative environments where solutions are developed, tested, and refined based on user feedback and operational results is essential.

  • Strong software engineering and technical capabilities: Solid software and data engineering skills, experience with Linux server operation and patching, strong Python scripting capabilities, and experience using Git for source control. You are motivated by solving complex technical challenges and curious about how technology can improve industrial processes.

  • Analytical mindset and learning agility: Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with the ability to turn complex challenges into practical solutions. You quickly learn new technologies, programming languages, databases, and tools, and can balance robust, maintainable engineering with experimentation and prototyping to validate new ideas.

  • Communication and collaboration skills: Professional working proficiency in English, strong communication skills, and the ability to collaborate effectively with colleagues from business, scientific, and technical backgrounds. You thrive in cross-functional environments and can work effectively across production, engineering, automation, and IT disciplines.

Additional skills & interests we value

The following experience and interests are valuable, but not required:

  • Experience with relevant technologies and platforms, including AWS cloud technologies (EC2, S3, and IoT Greengrass), cloud-based or distributed systems, industrial IT and automation systems, data engineering and analytical platforms, and process control or advanced control applications.

  • Experience with bioprocessing and production environments, including fermentation or bioprocesses, and an interest in applying technology and data-driven approaches to improve operational performance.

  • A curious and value-focused mindset, with a passion for creating solutions that deliver measurable business value. Danish language skills are an advantage for daily interaction and collaboration at the production site

What we offer you
