Job Description

This position has the option to be remote. Candidates must be within a driving distance to the Dublin, OH, or Cleveland, OH, offices.

What Specialty Networks and Commercial Technologies Software Engineering contributes to Cardinal Health

Specialty Networks creates clinical and economic value for independent specialty providers and pharmaceutical industry partners across multiple specialties: Urology, Gastroenterology, and Rheumatology. Specialty Networks’ PPS Analytics platform is a commercial SaaS platform that collects data from various clinical and operational practice systems, and uses artificial intelligence and modern data analytics to transform it into meaningful and actionable insights that ensure providers get their patients to the right care at the right time.

The Commercial Technologies Software Engineering team delivers the applications our member practices and pharmaceutical partners depend on. This Software Engineer will design and implement full-stack functionality across our clinical and administrative web applications and the services behind them, working closely with their own team and others.

Our platform is modern and actively evolving, and this role is focused on new development. You will build data-rich, user-facing features in a regulated healthcare environment, increasingly with AI-assisted capabilities, and help take the product through its next stage of evolution. We value engineers who can turn ambiguous product direction into well-built, maintainable software.

This is a hands-on role with the potential for technical leadership scope. You will be a primary contributor, and may also set technical direction and guide the day-to-day work of a small team that includes contract engineers. That leadership is technical rather than people management: you would lead the work and raise the bar of what the team ships, without carrying HR responsibility for it.

Responsibilities

  • Design and implement full-stack functionality across our web applications, from the API and data layer through the user interface
  • Build the interfaces users work in day to day, from interactive dashboards to workflow tools
  • Design configurable, data-driven feature logic so product behavior can be adapted without code changes
  • Integrate AI- and analytics-assisted capabilities, building for results that are explainable and traceable to their source
  • Author well-structured, reusable UI components, and build and consume RESTful APIs and the serverless functions behind our integrations
  • May provide technical direction to a small team of engineers, including contract resources: breaking work into clear, well-specified tasks, reviewing code, and upholding our engineering standards
  • Write secure, privacy-conscious code in line with our HIPAA obligations and application-security standards, and contribute to automated testing
  • Keep our applications current as frameworks and platform standards evolve, and debug and resolve issues across the stack
  • Mentor developers, act as a QA resource, and collaborate across engineering and non-technical teams
  • Assist with software releases and build and release automation

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in a related field, or equivalent work experience, preferred
  • 7+ years of full-stack software development with C# and a modern component-based JavaScript framework, preferred
  • Experience leading projects technically and guiding the work of other engineers, including contract or partner resources, as a technical lead rather than a people manager; able to scope and specify work clearly enough for others to execute
  • Expert-level C# with ASP.NET Core, and expert-level Angular and TypeScript
  • Strong experience designing and consuming RESTful APIs
  • Solid Entity Framework Core and SQL Server skills, with comfort dropping to hand-written SQL (for example, Dapper) when performance calls for it
  • Experience building data-driven, configurable feature logic (rules engines or similarly parameterized behavior) rather than one-off hard-coded flows
  • Experience building data-forward interfaces such as dashboards, reporting, or search and filtering over sizable datasets
  • Hands-on experience building and operating applications on Microsoft Azure: App Services, Azure Functions, Key Vault, and Application Insights; authentication with Azure AD B2C and MSAL; and Azure DevOps for CI/CD
  • A security-conscious approach to code, and experience meeting quality and application-security standards in a regulated or enterprise setting
  • A strong communicator, comfortable with ambiguity and evolving requirements, and a collaborative problem-solver

Preferred:

  • Healthcare or clinical application development in a HIPAA-regulated, PHI-handling environment
  • Integrating AI or LLM-backed capabilities with attention to grounding, citation, or explainability
  • Clinical decision support, guideline- or protocol-driven logic, or other rules-based domain modeling
  • Multi-tenant SaaS and tenant data isolation
  • Working with distributed, offshore, or contract engineering teams
  • Component-driven frontend architecture, and third-party or vendor data integrations
  • Performance and application performance monitoring (APM) tooling, and familiarity with security and compliance frameworks (SAST, SOC 2, or HITRUST)
  • Legacy application migration and modernization

Anticipated Pay Range: $94,900 - $135,600

Bonus Eligible: No
