Job Description

We are looking for a Software Engineer to join our development team and contribute to the next generation of the SmarTest development environment.

The focus of this position is the development and long-term evolution of a VS Code and Language Server Protocol (LSP)-based development platform for SmarTest, Advantest's software platform for developing and executing semiconductor test programs on automated test equipment (ATE). The platform will complement the existing Eclipse-based environment and provide the technical foundation for modern development workflows and AI-assisted software development.

The role involves working with a new technology stack, APIs and toolchains and contributing to architecture that enables SmarTest functionality to be integrated into modern IDEs and AI-driven developer tools.

Key Responsibilities

• Develop and maintain the VS Code-based development platform for SmarTest
• Design, implement and enhance Language Server Protocol (LSP) functionality
• Develop APIs and interfaces between SmarTest functionality and modern IDE environments
• Contribute to the architecture of a modular and extensible IDE platform
• Enable integration with modern AI-assisted development tools
• Implement features supporting code analysis, code navigation, code completion and other developer productivity capabilities
• Improve the overall developer experience for SmarTest test program development
• Analyze and resolve technical issues across the VS Code/LSP platform
• Develop automated tests and contribute to platform quality and stability
• Collaborate with development teams in Germany, India, China and other international locations
• Coordinate technical interfaces and requirements with other SmarTest development teams
• Continuously evaluate new technologies and developments in the VS Code and AI developer-tooling ecosystem

What You Will Work On

You will help establish and evolve a strategic development platform for future SmarTest development. The goal is to enable customers to use modern IDE technologies and the rapidly growing AI ecosystem around VS Code while maintaining seamless integration with SmarTest.

Qualifications

Experience: 3 to 4+ years’ work experience

• Bachelor's or Master's degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering or a related technical field
• Strong software development skills and experience with modern software engineering practices
• Good knowledge of object-oriented and/or modern application development
• Experience with one or more relevant programming languages such as Java, TypeScript, JavaScript, C++ or similar
• Understanding of software architecture, APIs and modular software systems
• Experience with Git and modern software development workflows
• Strong analytical and problem-solving skills
• Good written and spoken English
• Ability to work effectively in an international and distributed development environment

Preferred Qualifications

• Experience with Visual Studio Code extension development
• Experience with the Language Server Protocol (LSP)
• Experience with TypeScript and Node.js
• Knowledge of IDE architecture or developer tooling
• Experience with Eclipse or Eclipse-based development environments
• Experience with AI-assisted software development tools such as GitHub Copilot
• Knowledge of automated testing and CI/CD environments
• Experience developing tools for large and complex software platforms
