The AI COE brings together software engineering, AI, and data. You'll move ideas from rapid prototypes to production-ready solutions while helping develop engineering best practices and reusable patterns for responsible AI solution delivery.
As a Software Engineer, AI Center of Excellence, you'll be responsible for building, testing, deploying, and maintaining AI-enabled solutions in support of Casey's continuous improvement initiatives. This role collaborates with our Enterprise Continuous Improvement team, product owners, business stakeholders, Data & Analytics team, and IT to develop solutions that deliver measurable business value.
Key Responsibilities
- Design, develop, test, deploy, and maintain AI-enabled applications, services, and automation solutions.
- Collaborate with business stakeholders, continuous improvement practitioners, and product partners to understand requirements and translate them into technical solutions.
- Build rapid prototypes and proof-of-concepts to validate ideas and accelerate innovation.
- Develop and enhance solutions utilizing large language models (LLMs), AI agents, and workflow automation tools where appropriate.
- Design, develop, execute, and maintain automated testing and evaluations to ensure solution quality and reliability.
- Monitor, troubleshoot, and resolve issues to maintain stable and effective production solutions.
- Contribute to engineering best practices, reusable components, and solution patterns that improve quality and accelerate delivery of AI-enabled solutions.
- Partner with engineering, data, security, and platform teams to ensure solutions meet enterprise requirements for security, governance, and scalability.
- Research emerging technologies and recommend opportunities to improve platforms, processes, and business outcomes.

Compensation: Starting pay range: $81,500 - $112,100. Actual pay may vary based on Casey’s assessment of the candidate's knowledge, skills, abilities (KSAs), related experience, education, and qualifications. Other factors impacting pay include local prevailing wages and internal equity. This position is eligible for an annual cash bonus based on company performance. Our full salary range for this role does extend beyond the hiring range listed, allowing team members the opportunity to continue to grow within the company.
Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or equivalent years of related work experience.
- At least three (3) years of experience building and maintaining technical solutions in a business environment.
- Experience developing software applications using modern programming languages, such as Python or C#.
- Experience working with cloud platforms, databases, and source control systems, such as Microsoft Azure, SQL-based databases, and Git.
Preferred:
- Comfortable using agentic coding tools such as GitHub Copilot and Claude Code.
- Experience building AI-enabled applications or workflow automation solutions.
- Experience with large language models, tool integration, agent skill development, Model Context Protocol (MCP), retrieval-augmented generation (RAG), and related technologies.
- Experience deploying solutions through modern CI/CD practices.
