Job Description
Thomson Reuters is seeking a motivated and talented Software Engineer to join our engineering team. In this role, you will help design, develop, test, deploy, and maintain scalable software systems and applications used by customers around the world.
You will collaborate with experienced engineers, product owners, architects, and other stakeholders to deliver reliable, high-quality solutions. This is an excellent opportunity for an early-career engineer who enjoys solving complex technical problems, writing clean code, learning new technologies, and contributing to large-scale distributed systems in a collaborative Agile environment.
Key Responsibilities
- Collaborate with engineers, mentors, product owners, architects, and cross-functional stakeholders to build scalable, reliable, and high-performing software solutions.
- Contribute to the design, development, testing, deployment, and maintenance of software features and applications.
- Write clean, maintainable, well-documented, and well-tested code in accordance with established engineering standards and best practices.
- Participate actively in code reviews, debugging, testing, and quality-improvement activities.
- Support the delivery of software solutions by analyzing requirements and translating them into effective technical implementations.
- Identify technical issues, troubleshoot defects, and assist in implementing timely and sustainable resolutions.
- Participate in Agile ceremonies, including sprint planning, daily stand-ups, retrospectives, backlog refinement, and team discussions.
- Work with the team to improve software quality, reliability, security, performance, scalability, and integration capabilities.
- Contribute to automated testing, CI/CD processes, version-control workflows, and deployment practices.
- Continuously expand technical knowledge by learning new programming languages, tools, technologies, and software development practices.
- Foster a collaborative, innovative, inclusive, and learning-focused team environment.
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, or a related technical field.
- Experience with software development through academic coursework, internships, personal projects, open-source contributions, or team-based projects.
- Proficiency in at least one programming language; Java experience is strongly preferred.
- Basic understanding of the software development lifecycle, including requirements analysis, design, development, testing, deployment, and maintenance.
- Foundational knowledge of object-oriented programming, software design patterns, architectural principles, and system design concepts.
- Understanding of core software engineering principles, including scalability, reliability, security, integration, and testing.
- Familiarity with relational database management systems and fundamental database concepts.
- Exposure to version-control systems, preferably Git.
- Familiarity with Agile development methodologies and collaborative software delivery practices.
- Exposure to automated testing and software quality-assurance practices.
- Ability to write clean, maintainable, testable, and well-documented code.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to troubleshoot technical issues effectively.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills and the ability to collaborate effectively across teams.
- Demonstrated ability to learn quickly, adapt to changing requirements, receive feedback constructively, and contribute in a fast-paced environment.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience or coursework involving Java-based application development.
- Interest in learning Scala and functional programming concepts.
- Exposure to microservices architecture, distributed systems, and service-oriented design.
- Familiarity with containerization technologies, such as Docker.
- Exposure to cloud platforms, cloud-native development, or modern application deployment practices.
- Familiarity with CI/CD pipelines and DevOps practices.
- Experience building RESTful APIs or integrating with external services.
- Experience with unit testing frameworks, integration testing, and test automation.
- Familiarity with monitoring, logging, observability, or production-support practices.
- Experience working on collaborative engineering projects using Agile practices.
- Demonstrated interest in building large-scale, customer-focused software products.
