The Department Diagnostics & Base Technology

We provide harmonized base technology solutions for the complete vehicle and act as the competence center for diagnostics, supporting plants, aftermarket, and product compliance.

We have end-to-end responsibility for diagnostics, in-vehicle communication, and software download (SWDL). Our focus is on ensuring reliable fault isolation, fault management, and a seamless OTA customer experience. We also develop onboard-to-offboard data collection within systems such as IHU, DHU, and UXC, and ensure compliance with OBD regulations.

The Team Core Diagnostics

We develop diagnostic solutions and system designs that improve efficiency, reduce downtime and costs, and enhance customer satisfaction.

Through accurate fault detection, calibration, and system observability, we enable fast, confident decisions in factory and aftermarket operations supporting a reliable Volvo Cars ownership experience.

What you'll do

This is a cross-functional role spanning Software Engineering, Data Analytics, and Data Engineering within Core Diagnostics.

You will play a key role in automotive diagnostics and data analytics, with a focus on detecting software and vehicle issues. Your mission is to design and develop scalable, data-driven methods and applications that turn complex diagnostic data into actionable insights, enabling systematic analysis and efficient root-cause identification.

Key responsibilities:

· To Develop and maintain diagnostic applications, tools, and data pipelines

· To Build scalable methods for data analysis, anomaly detection, and validation

· To Analyse diagnostic and system data to support verification and quality improvement

· To Enable efficient data collection, processing, and insights using platforms like ADX

What you'll bring

· Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Computer science, Software Engineering, Data Science, or equivalent practical experience, with 3+ years of experience in data or software engineering within data-intensive environments.

· Strong hands-on experience with Python, SQL, ADX (Azure Data Explorer) or similar data analytics platforms.

· Ability to quickly understand complex technical systems, with strong analytical, communication, and ownership skills; fluent in English.

· Knowledge of embedded systems and software-hardware interaction in complex system environments.

· Experience in Azure environments, Docker, image building and deployment, plus automation and scripting with the ability to read and understand code, is plus.
