Title of Role: Software Engineer (Full Stack / Backend-Leaning)

Location: New York, NY (On-site, 5 days/week – Flatiron)
Company Stage of Funding: Seed (~$10M raised, strong VC backing incl. Sequoia Scout, YC, Excel)
Office Type: On-site
Salary: $150,000 – $230,000 + Competitive Equity

Our client is a fast-growing healthcare AI company rebuilding how modern healthcare communicates using AI agents.

The company builds end-to-end AI systems that handle patient communication workflows such as scheduling, billing, prescription refills, and follow-ups—reducing the administrative burden on healthcare providers while improving patient access and responsiveness.

They have already processed hundreds of thousands of real patient interactions across healthcare providers, virtual care platforms, and large insurance organizations, demonstrating early product-market fit in a high-stakes, regulated environment.

Backed by strong investors including Sequoia Scout, Y Combinator, and Excel, the company is scaling rapidly with plans to significantly expand its engineering team.

Founded by a physician and an ex-Amazon Alexa engineer, the team combines deep healthcare domain expertise with strong AI and systems engineering experience.

This is a high-intensity, in-person engineering environment focused on building production-grade AI systems that directly impact patient care.

What You Will Do

• Build and ship full-stack production features powering AI-driven healthcare communication systems
• Develop backend services using Node.js, TypeScript, and PostgreSQL
• Work on AI agent workflows that automate scheduling, billing, and patient follow-ups
• Integrate with healthcare systems including EHRs and legacy medical infrastructure
• Contribute to real-time voice and communication infrastructure
• Build intuitive user-facing features with React and strong product focus
• Debug and improve reliability, latency, and scalability of production systems
• Work closely with founders, product, and customers to translate needs into shipped features
• Participate in design discussions, architecture decisions, and code reviews
• Help define engineering standards in a rapidly scaling startup environment
• Operate in a fast-paced, high-ownership environment with direct customer impact

Ideal Candidate Background

• 2–6 years of software engineering experience
• Experience shipping production systems end-to-end (0→1 or early scaling)
• Strong full-stack engineering ability (backend-leaning preferred)
• Experience at high-growth startups or well-known product-driven companies
• Strong product intuition and ability to think about UX and customer workflows
• Comfortable working in ambiguous, fast-moving environments
• Strong signal of excellence (top school, strong startup, or standout projects)

Preferred / Strong Signals

• Experience with LLMs, AI agents, or conversational systems
• Exposure to voice systems, real-time communication, or telephony infrastructure
• Experience integrating external APIs or complex backend systems
• Strong React + TypeScript experience on production products
• Experience in healthcare, fintech, or other high-stakes domains
• Startup experience at companies like Ramp, Linear, Retool, Graphite, Scale AI
• Strong side projects or founder-like initiative
• High ownership in previous roles (not just feature execution)

• Built and shipped real production systems with users
• Experience owning full-stack features end-to-end
• Strong product sense (UX-aware engineering decisions)
• Evidence of high agency and independent execution
• Exposure to AI-native product development

Compensation and Benefits

• Base salary: $150,000 – $230,000
