Overview

Help build the next generation of computing with Project Solara, a new chip-to-cloud platform for agent-first devices. Project Solara brings together software, hardware, cloud services, and AI to enable specialized device experiences shaped around people, their agents, tasks, and environments.

The Applied Sciences Group (ASG) is the multidisciplinary product engineering, research, and incubation team developing Project Solara and turning its vision into working devices and product experiences. As a Software Engineer II on the ASG team, you will design, implement, integrate, and validate software changes across Android-based devices and platform components. You will also develop automated verification, testing, and continuous integration infrastructure that enables the team to deliver secure, reliable, and high-quality device experiences. You will collaborate across software, firmware, hardware, security, and cloud services to deliver new device capabilities, diagnose system-level issues, and move changes from development through integration and release.

Responsibilities

  • Design, implement, test, debug, and maintain software changes for Android-based devices and embedded platform components.
  • Work with engineering and product partners to define requirements and deliver new device and platform capabilities.
  • Integrate and validate changes across application, operating system, firmware, and hardware boundaries.
  • Develop and maintain automated tests, verification tools, test frameworks, and continuous integration infrastructure that improve engineering velocity and product quality.
  • Investigate software defects, test failures, and system-level issues using logs, traces, telemetry, test results, and other diagnostic information.
  • Contribute to software designs, identify dependencies, document technical decisions, and participate in code and design reviews.
  • Break larger engineering efforts into scoped work items, provide estimates, and drive assigned changes through development, testing, integration, and release.

Qualifications

Required/Minimum Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science or related technical field AND some technical engineering experience with coding in languages including, but not limited to, C, C++, C#, Java, JavaScript, or Python.
  • OR equivalent experience.

Additional or preferred qualifications

Other Requirements: Ability to meet Microsoft, customer and/or government security screening requirements are required for this role. These requirements include but are not limited to the following specialized security screenings:

  • Microsoft Cloud Background Check: This position will be required to pass the Microsoft Cloud background check upon hire/transfer and every two years thereafter.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience developing system or device software using C, C++, or Python.
  • Experience with Android, AOSP, Linux, embedded systems, or hardware-software integration.
  • Experience building automated tests, test frameworks, continuous integration pipelines, or developer productivity tools.
  • Experience diagnosing issues across software, firmware, and hardware boundaries.
