Our platform enables first-party and third-party product teams and developers to build high-quality, reliable, and responsible AI-powered experiences across a broad range of devices and hardware configurations. It brings together model integration, developer APIs and SDKs, evaluation and quality measurement, runtime orchestration, observability, and production engineering. You will help turn emerging AI capabilities into scalable platform building blocks that operate reliably at Windows scale.

We are looking for a Software Engineer II to build and ship dependable Windows AI platform components, APIs, evaluation capabilities, and developer tooling. You will own features end to end, collaborate across engineering, product, and applied science teams, and use data and engineering rigor to deliver consistent experiences across devices, configurations, and release channels.

Responsibilities

As a Software Engineer II within the Windows AI Platform Engineering team, you will:

• Design, develop, test, and maintain production-quality components, libraries, services, APIs, and SDKs for the Windows AI platform.
• Integrate AI models into scalable platform workflows while keeping interfaces consistent, extensible, maintainable, and easy for developers to adopt.
• Build capabilities that scale from local experimentation to broad Windows deployment, accounting for hardware diversity, resource constraints, versioning, and backward compatibility.
• Own features from design through coding, testing, self-host validation, and safe rollout, with a solid focus on quality, reliability, and performance.
• Build automated evaluation and regression capabilities for output quality, correctness, performance, reliability, and responsible AI requirements.
• Use telemetry and data-driven debugging to diagnose issues across model, runtime, API, OS, and application boundaries.
• Use performance, power, memory, reliability, and compatibility data to improve AI experiences across Windows devices and deployment rings.
• Prototype new AI capabilities and convert successful explorations into robust platform features.
• Collaborate with product managers, applied scientists, partner engineering teams, and senior technical leaders to clarify requirements, dependencies, and delivery trade-offs.
• Contribute to operational excellence through monitoring, incident analysis, safe rollout, security, privacy, compliance, and continuous improvement.
• Champion AI-assisted engineering practices, automation, and effective use of developer tooling.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science or a related technical discipline AND 4+ years of professional software development experience.
• Solid proficiency in one or more programming languages such as C++, C#, Python, or equivalent.
• Solid understanding of software and API design, testing, debugging, data structures, algorithms, and source-control practices.
• Experience building reliable software components, developer platforms, cloud services, or distributed systems.
• Demonstrated ability to own and deliver complex features end to end with appropriate technical guidance.
• Solid problem-solving, analytical, communication, and collaboration skills.
• Experience with AI/ML systems, model integration, inference pipelines, prompt or agent orchestration, or AI application development.
• Experience with evaluation frameworks, quality metrics, benchmark datasets, experimentation, or AI regression testing.
• Experience with Azure, cloud-native services, containers, CI/CD, observability, and production operations.
• Experience with Windows development technologies, Visual Studio, Windows SDK, WinAppSDK, systems programming, Windows servicing, compatibility, or application lifecycle management.
• Experience contributing to open-source projects or developer communities through GitHub.
• Familiarity with responsible AI, security, privacy, accessibility, and compliance considerations.
