We are seeking a proactive and skilled Software Engineer II to join our Engineering team at Fortra. In this role, you will be responsible for enhancing and maintaining existing software products, as well as developing new solutions that support our mission. Your expertise will be instrumental in driving high-quality development efforts with minimal supervision. You’ll collaborate closely with your team, take initiative, and approach challenges with confidence and creativity. This is a full-time role with competitive salary and benefits. WHAT YOU'LL DO

  • Design and implement new features and functionality.
  • Diagnose and fix complex product defects within a project or supporting customers.
  • Actively participate in all Agile ceremonies
  • The ability and self-discipline to use self-training tools
  • Be able to start writing less complex technical specifications based on conceptual
  • design and stated business requirements.
  • Perform testing of features and defect fixes performed by other developers.
  • Follow and help refine our development best practices and standards.
  • Help identify, prioritize, and execute tasks to meet project deadlines.
  • Comply with standards, version controls, and product release procedures.
  • Work with technical writers to ensure product documentation on new features
  • and changes are properly documented.
  • Work under minimal supervision on various projects
  • Assist or mentor other less experienced team members.
  • Other duties as assigned.

QUALIFICATIONS

  • An experienced UNIX / Linux developer with skills in network and system programming.
  • Qualified in Computer Science to degree level.
  • Skilled in advanced problem solving and feature development.
  • Good at working in a project framework and handling most system development roles.
  • Excellent written and spoken English.
  • Excellent abilities in the C programming language and system development in a UNIX / Linux environment.
  • Has worked with Perl, Ruby and other scripting languages.
  • Experience of kanban, scrum and other agile development methods.
  • Willing to use AI programming tools such as Codex, Copilot.
  • Experience of web services, RBAC systems and / or databases
