Who We Are
Independent for over 75 years, Milliman delivers market-leading services and solutions to clients worldwide. Milliman invests in skills training and career development and gives all employees access to a variety of learning and mentoring opportunities. Our growing number of Milliman Employee Resource Groups (ERGs) are employee-led communities that influence policy decisions, develop future leaders, and amplify the voices of their constituents. Milliman’s Milwaukee-based Property and Casualty practice is one of the leading experts in P&C insurance matters. Our consulting work is supported by a powerful toolkit of data analytics solutions and software platforms, informed by years of in-depth work.
The Opportunity
Many of our clients have data about their workers compensation claims, but don’t have meaningful ways to interpret the data, or the ability to predict future claims. Milliman’s Defense Complaint Analytics team is answering that need by building a Python-based machine learning application that will process historic and current client data on claims, fit predictive models, and identify key claims, allowing clients to efficiently allocate their time and resources. This application will soon be migrated from MVP to an Azure resource in the cloud.
As a key member of this enterprise-level development team, the Software Development Intern will gain hands-on experience with Python and C# best practices, learn about managing interconnected resources in Azure, and make meaningful contributions to our codebase. Our ideal hire will bring both programming skills and knowledge of data science to support the design and development of high-quality modeling solutions. While the team is comprised of industry experts, there is no “playbook” for this project – we’re building something from the ground up, and this intern will be a part of it. This is a great opportunity for a constantly curious and driven student to apply the programming and data science techniques they’ve learned to real-world business problem-solving.
This internship is anticipated to be part-time, approximately 20 hours per week for 12 weeks, between January and May 2026 with the potential to extend into the summer.
