About the role
 
As a Software Development Engineer III you are in a senior Individual Contributor 
engineering role at Tesco. Your proficiency with foundational computer science and 
software engineering concepts is taken as a given, and you will have proven significant 
technical depth and breadth
At this level you will be playing an active role in technical 
leadership,
with proven impact across teams and the wider directorate. You take 
ownership and accountability of the development of the products in your domain. You 
participate in activities that build capability across the organisation: coaching and 
mentoring of existing colleagues, and interviewing/hiring of new colleagues.

We are seeking a skilled React Native Mobile App Developer with strong expertise in the 
Expo ecosystem to design, build and maintain high-performance cross-platform 
mobile applications
In this role, you will leverage Expo and its modern suite of tools (like 
EAS and Expo Router) for development and deliver Tesco design system aligned native 
experiences for both iOS and Android platforms from a single codebase. You will 
collaborate closely with Product Managers, UI/UX Designers to translate requirements into 
scalable solutions.

You will be responsible for
Key Responsibilities 
1.  Develop and maintain cross-platform mobile applications using React Native 
2.  Work on a day-to-day basis with Agentic AI to leverage spec, skills and agents to 
do 50% of their work across development, documentation and testing 
3.  Collaborate with engineering managers, product managers, designers and 
backend developers to deliver seamless user experiences 
4.  Optimize applications for speed and scalability 
5.  Have a clear understanding of how to build accessible and secure applications 
6.  Write clean, maintainable and reusable code following best practices 
7.  Debug and resolve technical issues across web and mobile platforms 
8.  Integrate APIs and third-party libraries into applications 
9.  Stay updated with the latest industry trends, emerging patterns and standards 
 
Qualifications 
1.  Bachelor’s/master’s degree in computer science 
2.  Minimum 8+ years’ experience as a Software UI Engineer in Enterprise or Product 
companies 
 

You will need
Technical Skills  
1. 4 years developing Reactive Native Front End App Experiences using React Native 
and the Expo Framework with core understanding of JavaScript Bridge (JSI) and 
the rest 4 building Front End App Experience 
2. Deep proficiency in JavaScript and TypeScript (highly preferred), including 
modern ES6+ concepts 
3. Strong command of React Principles, React Hooks, Context API, and Component 
lifecycles 
4. Knowledge of how to use Component Libraries to build applications 
5. Hands-on experience with the latest Expo SDKs, Expo Router (file-based routing), 
and EAS workflows 
6. Should understand concepts around caching and how to achieve the same  
7. Proven experience with state management libraries such as Zustand, Redux 
Toolkit, or MobX 
8. Deep understanding of iOS and Android deployment Lifecycles, application 
signing, and app store guidelines 
9. Deep skills of Git, GitHub, and continuous integration pipelines 
10. Proficient in using Agentic AI to leverage spec, skills and agents to do 50% of their 
work across development, documentation and testing 
11. Experience in determining performance profiling for Prod ready Apps 
12. Knowledge and understanding of Accessibility AA Standards 
13. Experience in designing, programming, and implementing large scale UI system 
14. Experience in integrating front end UI/mobile applications with backend API’s 
built using GraphQL or REST 
15. Knowledge of Flexbox and CSS Grid based systems 
16. Knowledge of CSS pre-processing platforms, such as SASS or LESS  
17. Experience with testing frameworks (Jest, Maestro, Appium, RNTL) 
18. Have used packaging tools like Webpack or Babel 
19. Understanding of mobile app deployment (App Store, Google Play Store) 
20. Knowledge of design tools like Figma and how to use them 
21. Understanding of SEO and Deep Linking is Important

3. Should be familiar using tools like JIRA and Confluence 
4. Should be familiar with concepts like EPICS, Stories, Tasks, Acceptance Criteria
