THE PERSON:

THE ROLE:

The Infrastructure Team builds and operates the internal platforms, tools and automation that keep developer workflows and ASIC design/verification environments running smoothly. In this role you will focus on hands-on infrastructure support, troubleshooting and debugging across Unix/Linux systems, build and package services, job schedulers, and EDA tool integrations. You will also write and maintain automation scripts and contribute to improving operational reliability and observability.

You’ll be a key contributor to the reliability and productivity of design and verification teams by quickly resolving infrastructure incidents, reducing manual work through automation, and improving visibility into system health. This is an excellent early-career opportunity to grow deep operational skillsets while collaborating with senior engineers on impactful AMD infrastructure projects.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

• Provide day-to-day infrastructure support and incident response for Unix/Linux servers, service daemons, build farms, and developer tools.
• Triage and troubleshoot system and application issues: collect logs, run diagnostics, reproduce problems, analyze root cause, and implement fixes or workarounds.
• Maintain and tune job-scheduling and compute resource systems (LSF or equivalent), monitor queue health, and resolve job failures and resource contention.
• Develop and maintain small-to-medium automation scripts and tools in Shell, Python, Perl, or other scripting languages to automate operational tasks and repetitive workflows.
• Analyze system performance and resource usage; propose and implement capacity changes and configuration improvements.
• Participate in incident postmortems, document findings, and drive corrective actions to prevent recurrence.
• Create and maintain clear operational runbooks, run-checklists, and system documentation.
• Collaborate with developers, EDA tool owners, and senior engineers to escalate and resolve complex issues.

PREFERRED EXPERIENCE

• Strong working knowledge of Linux/Unix systems: shell usage, process management, system services, package management, permissions.
• Practical experience with log analysis and diagnostics (syslog/journald, application logs, strace, lsof, netstat/ss).
• Hands-on experience writing and maintaining scripts for automation and troubleshooting (Shell, Python, Perl, etc.).
• Familiarity with job schedulers and cluster/queue-based compute environments (LSF).
• Understanding of networking fundamentals (TCP/IP, DNS, routing).
• Experience with version control systems (Git and/or Perforce)
• Strong troubleshooting mindset and ability to perform root cause analysis; comfortable using diagnostic tools and collaborating across teams.
• Clear written and verbal communication skills for incident reporting and documentation.
• Prior exposure to EDA tools/workflows used in ASIC design and verification.
• Basic understanding of software development lifecycle and object-oriented programming concepts.
• Experience with monitoring and observability tooling (Prometheus, Grafana, ELK/EFK stacks, or similar).

ACADEMIC CREDENTIALS

• Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Computer Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Computer Science, or equivalent practical experience.
