Job Description
Come help us create innovative capabilities for Amazon's Associates, managers, and leaders to support the evolution of People eXperience and Technology (PXT). The Workforce Solutions (WS) team builds and delivers world-class products for Amazon's employees — we believe happy Amazon customers start with happy Amazon employees! We give associates around the globe the flexibility to enrich their job experience. As a member of this team, you are changing people's lives by building the tools that help them advance in their careers.
Behind these products sits a genuinely interesting engineering challenge: we build distributed, event-driven microservices on native AWS (Java, DynamoDB, SQS, EventBridge, ECS Fargate, ElastiCache, infrastructure as code with CDK) that serves over one million employees across multiple countries in real time. Our systems must encode country-specific rules and regulations into a single scalable platform, process large volumes of operational data through orchestrated workflow pipelines, and hold a high bar for availability and data correctness — because our outputs directly affect employees' pay and careers. We are also actively modernizing: re-architecting established systems onto a next-generation microservices platform, with safe, validated migrations — so you'll get both greenfield design work and the satisfaction of retiring legacy.
Key job responsibilities
- Design, build, and operate highly available, distributed services on native AWS that serve employees globally in real time
- Build event-driven data pipelines and orchestrated workflows that scale in volume and handle the complexity of diverse, country-specific rules and regulations
- Drive the modernization of existing systems onto a new microservice architecture, proving correctness before cutover
- Own automation of business processes end to end in a full-stack environment using proven and evolving AWS services
- Solve complex business and technical problems by diving deep, collecting data, and using sound judgement in the face of insufficient data
- Be a technical innovator: challenge the norms, and mentor engineers through design and code reviews
A day in the life
As a Software Development Engineer, you will design, develop, and test Amazon-scale enterprise systems serving over a million employees worldwide, continuously learning new technologies and using the newest AWS tools — including AI-assisted development, where we build our own AI agents for operational automation. We run a sustainable, shared on-call rotation and we invest in automation to keep it quiet. We take work-life balance seriously.
The hiring manager and the whole team are co-located in Dublin, giving you real in-person collaboration and mentorship.
