Job Introduction
The Frequentis Group is an international supplier of communication and information systems for control centres with safety-critical tasks. These ‘Control Centre Solutions’ are developed and distributed by Frequentis in the business segments Air Traffic Management (civil and military air traffic control, aeronautical information management, air defence) and Public Safety & Transport (police, fire and rescue services, emergency medical services, vessel traffic and railways). With headquarters in Vienna, the company employs more than 2500 people worldwide, with subsidiaries, regional offices and representatives in over 50 countries.
In Cluj we started in 2009 and our local team currently has 200+ colleagues and is growing.
ARTAS (ATM suRveillance Tracker and Server) is a system commissioned by Eurocontrol to provide critical functions for Aerial surveillance and Air traffic control. ARTAS is a tracker system: based on noisy sensor measurements it establishes an accurate Air Situation Picture for all air traffic within a well-defined geographical area and distributes the resulting surveillance information to a community of downstream user systems.
ARTAS thus is the core part of the surveillance system landscape of the European Air Navigation Service Providers. ARTAS can be set up as a distributed system composed of a number of identical subsystems co-operating with each other. Each subsystem, called an ARTAS Unit, will process all sensor measurements (e.g. radar plots, multilateration target reports, etc.) to form the best estimate of the current Air Traffic situation (tracks) within a given Domain of Interest. Adjacent ARTAS Units will co-ordinate their tracks to build a unique, coherent and continuous Air Situation Picture over the complete area.

Key Tasks

• Contribute to the software development, testing and maintenance efforts for the software components of the system
• Learn and apply the team’s processes and ways of working
• Implement, execute, document and maintain automated tests based on requirements.
• Assume responsibility for a feature and ensure that everything is completed before it is delivered
• Automate the deployment and configuration of our products (Red Hat Kickstart, Ansible)
• Communicate directly with international team members (in Cluj, Bratislava and Karlsruhe)

Key Qualifications

• Solid knowledge of object-oriented design and principles
• Experience with development in Python or Rust
• Good Linux knowledge
• IP networking know-how
• Experience in configuration management and deployment tools (Ansible)
• Knowledge of C++, Ada or another object-oriented programming languages is considered an advantage
• Scripting experience (bash)
• Willingness to contribute to a very exciting domain (ATM) and learn a programming language used in many safety-critical applications on an international level (Ada).
• Experience with continuous delivery pipelines (Jenkins) is considered an advantage
• Experience with virtualization or containers (Docker) is considered an advantage
• Good command of spoken and written English
